How long do you want to ignore this user?
I just watched it on the DVR. I have no idea what the hell I just watched, but I was completely captivated for every second the show...and that never happens.

This season is so much better than last season. Did they get a new showrunner? New writers? How does a show get that much better like that?

Yeah you're right. She just drew me in any time she was on screen.

What was the explanation about the bird again? Can't quite remember what they said.

Last season was super depressing but I thought it was awesome. Just really tough to watch emotionally. It's draining. But I don't need formulaic bs so I was fine with a dark season.

Same show runner. Lindelof admitted he got depressed writing season 1 and was ready for a different setting and a sense of some positivity.

I'm not surprised at all that I like it because I was a huge LOST fan. I feel like the hbo platform has allowed Lindelof to sort of push narratives and themes way further than he was allowed to on network TV with LOST

Anyone want to shed some light on some of the themes or symbols in the after life?
Water- don't drink, little patti drowning, the well
Bird- loose in the hotel, grandpa kills it once he's staying
Outfits- Kevin picked assassin, what would have happened if he went priest, or cop?
Dad- where was he? Who was he with?
Patti- body double? What we the deal with all of her stories?
Loved the episode and kept me engaged for sure. Just have more questions than I did before. Which is great because this has a great classic LOST vibe to it. I just don't know what it all means.

If he was a priest he'd be crying on an elevator. If he was a cop, he'd be cuffed with a black hood over his head.

Kevin's dad looked like he was having a peyote orgie.

The dead bird has the same meaning as the dead birds she buried alive.

The water is just giving up hope.

That was my favorite episode of the series. The music in it, the acting, the story that episode blew my mind.

Here's my interpretation of these things.

Hotel - some kind of in-between like Purgatory or Hades or even Hell. In the Divine Comedy, Virgil was Dante's guide through Hell.

Water - Agree with earlier poster that said it kind of represents hope. Once you drink it, you give up. But it's also referencing the Lethe River in Greek mythology. If you drink the water it makes you forget the reason you're there. I think Virgil wanted to forget what he had done hence why he ended up drinking the water. He had stated earlier he was there to atone for his sins. Maybe for molesting John Murphy?

Birds - Symbolic? If you die in the in-between you can't leave, or it was even possibly one of the same ones Erika had been burying (more on this later).

Outfits - Maybe he chose the assassin since it was the most neutral looking one since he no longer saw himself as a cop and definitely not a priest. I can't remember if it was Virgil but someone said to Kevin something about him choosing the assassin since they live the kind of life that doesn't require them to have any responsibilities or family. Maybe that's how Kevin viewed himself in his head. However, I wonder if the guy dressed as a cop with a hood on his head was his dad. Remember what Virgil told Kevin. He needed to stop thinking of that place as a straight line but as a place that maybe time isn't continuous even mentioned a circle. Just like Mary being there and the birds. In purgatory time is irrelevant.

Dad - he said he was in Perth (mentioned in one of the first episodes this season he was going to Australia). It looked like he was with some aborigines. Possibly gave him some kind of elixir or concoction that allowed him to contact the in-between or afterworld since he was the one that sent him the flowers with the card "Get Well Soon" (double meaning again?) Maybe meant get to the well soon. Picture on the card even looked like his dad throwing a rock into the well.

Patti - the whole point of Kevin going there was to get rid of Patti. Virgil had told him multiple times that Patti would try to deceive him and prevent him from doing what he needed to do. I think her being a senator running for president or whatever was Kevin's projection of how he saw her in his mind. She was an important person in the GR and how she influenced a ton of people in his world. Maybe that's why Wayne and the other GR lady were there as well since they were projections from Kevin's memory or head. The body double was one of Patti's tricks to keep him from actually ridding himself from her. The little girl was another projection of how Kevin saw her. She was just innocent and afraid and Kevin felt sorry for her. In the end he ends up throwing her into the well that people throw things in to unburden themselves from.

New to the party....Binge watched from episode 1/1 over the last couple of weeks and finally got to the episode that aired Sunday. My perspective, as someone who picked up the show very recently and knew NOTHING about it other than "its kind of like Lost"

- While it starts a little slow, and takes a while to figure out why the main characters are like they are.....it was more than worth sticking through. I skimmed over the season 1 thread, and (probably because I binge watched) I think I liked it a lot more than many here (and everywhere I'm sure) did. The GR was Westboro Baptist-hateable, but I don't think it was necesarilly bad for the story. The show smartly made the decision to push viewers to the brink with it, and then end the overall story just when we couln't take it anymore.

- I had no clue Season 2 changed locations until Ep 1. And didnt know how involved S1 characters would be until the shot of Kevin and family moving in next door at the very end, a few minutes after the preacher showed up. I knew i recognized that courthouse, and sure enough its downtown Lockhart.

- The main piano sequence mentioned a few pages back is nails. Its one of those things you don't notice until about halfway through the first season, and then it slowly becomes one of the most identifiable parts of the show.

- This is the "heaviest" show I've ever seen...If you are the type that reasons "There is enough depression in the real world, I need a show to be at least somewhat upbeat", this is literally the worst show ever made. The flip side is, if you can handle pretty much any subject matter and it does not impact your day to day life, and you give props when a show makes you truly feel something, this show is in a league of its own. Of other shows currently airing - Fargo, The Americans, GOT are all great for different reasons, but this one has its place.

- As morbid as this show is, I'm surprised the bridge hasn't been crossed to see if any already decesed individuals also "departed"...Also, why do wallets/cell phones/whats in your pockets also depart along with the actual person? Probably a technicality, but just a thought I had...I'm intrigued more than anything by the story line of "why", even though as someone thats seen Lost I know thats at the bottom of the list of things that will be delved into.

Just a spell binding episode. I agree that I don't know if I can remember a show righting the ship and improving as much as this one from season 1 to 2.

Soo...what Meg has planned is to reveal the 3 girls, whom the GR has been recruiting, as the GR themselves? The town's first? That is all that appeared to be in the barn....

What a choice in song usage. Well done, Leftovers

The music selection for each show is awesome. I know music is supposed to, but for this show, it helps add so much to the situational vibe.

Country remake of When in Rome's "The Promise" was also nice.

So the town seer wasn't FOS after all. So what did Mom have to say when Meg was doing the white lines?

I'm usually not the biggest fan of Liv Tyler, but she is killing it in this.

Agreed. The best part of season 2 is that they've trended away from the GR. The GR is just grinding and aggravating to me. This episode was pretty good, but from the minute they showed Meg I thought "ugh! Not another GR storyline!"

I was shocked that those missing girls were in the trailer instead of a bomb.

I'm wondering if the kid will even realize who those girls are.
