It feels like Marvel had a big plan for how they'd use the multiverses/Kang to bring X-men, fantastic 4, and any other characters Fox had owned the rights to into the MCU, but then Majors got arrested… so now they're trying to force the plan through with RDJ instead.

Old story
- There was one good Kang, He who remains
- A bunch of neutral Kang's (Victor Timely, etc)
- And one big bad Kang, Kang the Conqueror

New story
- There was one good Tony Stark, Iron Man
- There will be a lot of neutral Stark's in the multiverse
- And there will be one big bad Tony Stark, Dr Doom

With a few modifications, they force through basically the same multiversal plan they'd cooked up to introduce Fantastic 4, X-Men, and any other Fox-owned properties into the MCU. Probably by introducing this big multiverse and then boom smashing it all together to create 1 new single universe that's easier to follow and has all the characters in it.

I mean the MCU is clearly desperate to get on the right track again.

The only compelling characters they have going right now: Strange (kind of messed up by last movie), Thor (kind of messed up by last movie), Shang Chi, Spiderman (always on loan), maybe some Guardians, Sam, Bucky.

Their lead villain bombed in Ant Man and then got arrested.

Only 3-4 movies since Endgame (out of 11 since Endgame) have been quality.

They've lost the majority of their star power. They haven't found reliable directors.

So they are doing the Hail Mary to bring back their biggest star, most successful directors and have their star play one of Marvel's biggest villains. I wish it hadn't gotten to the point they needed to do it but I understand the desire.

My biggest complaint with the movie. It really wasn't in the MCU. Just little cameos to point at. Still loved it but I thought it would progress the plot forward.

I think COVID and the writer's strike really screwed up the MCU's plans. They have been throwing **** at the wall in every movie post-credit in Phase 4&5 with zero pay off:

- Strange with Clea
-Shang Chi's rings with a signal to space
- Eternals and Thanos's brother; and Ebony Blade tease
- Hercules tease
- Kamala Young Avengers
-Monica in X Men universe
- Council of Kangs

These had zero to do with each other or even next projects. Really weird how disjointed the last 5 years have been after the masterclass of 2008-2019.

Honestly, the only time I was ever remotely excited for Kang was in the immediate wake of the Loki season one finale. But even then, that was strictly based on Majors' performance and not the character of Kang himself, who simply never resonated with me, I think in large part because of the thousands-of-variants angle. It was just... too much.

So, considering they were already going to introduce Doom in addition to Kang, I think this new angle is much better, if not way, way cleaner. Post-Thanos, Doom should have been the big bad all along, so I'm glad they've been forced to pivot and salvage what they can in that regard.

And then yeah, if this all results in a single new universe, that would be fantastic. If the goal of the next three years is to eliminate then multiverse, then hell yeah.

It's crazy that this and the new Superman not only come out within two weeks of each other, but Fantastic Four is retro future '60s, while Superman looks to be retro future '70s. That, and tonally both seem to built around a kind of radical, blue-sky optimism.

Next July could be so much fun.

Listening to the ringerverse discussion of Hall H. Charles the biggest marvel hater said he was digging the vibes of BNW, F4, AND Thunderbolts which is really saying something. He said marvel has been listening in regards to style and filmmaking

Interesting, Van thinks the reason RDJ came back is because he got an Oscar which is why he stepped away from Marvel. But when he took the mask off that was the true RDJ that loves the attention and adoration that was able to return because he reached the top

Besides the obvious brink trick of cash they injected into his veins

I've loved the MCU through Endgame and have been more than lenient on the stuff that's come out since. So I really don't want to be Mr. Negative here, but the more I think about all of this the more I just shake my head.

These people that are putting the spin on it of "Ooooo think about it, the roles are completely reversed now! Loki is the hero and Stark is the Villian! Man, that's so deep!"...well, if you come up with a new original storyline then you won't have to stretch your mind to find a spin to put on it.

I've been on record as saying I hated the idea of Stark coming back into the MCU, and well....yeah, still hate it. Sorry, but it instantly cheapens the emotional credit they were able to build up over a decade of building this MCU behemoth. And the fact that they have to come up with some complicated B.S. story to achieve it? C'mon, that should've been their first hint that its not a good move.

And as far we know right now we likely don't even get the real Victor Von Doom? Get outta here.

This whole Multiverse stuff is cute and funny in small one-off doses. Like Deadpool and Wolverine, and having all of the Spidermen come together in the last Spidey movie. But as a whole its just made an unecessarily complicated mess like many were afraid it would.

I'm indifferent so far to the look of FF, but love Florence Pugh in anything she does and love the Bucky character, so I'll continue to give the MCU a shot. But after thinking about all of this news from last night, none of it really moves the needle that much for me.

So is it confirmed that Dr. Doom will in fact be some multi-verse Tony Stark? I'm not good with that idea, for as excited as I was for the MCU's attempt at telling these multi-verse stories, I am now of the mind that it was a complete failure.

I had seen reports that Deadpool and Wolverine was going to put the stake through the multi-verse, but I left that theater thinking that wasn't really the case. I think the suggestion of having multiple actors - male, female, what-have-you - portraying the Kang variants would have been a great idea, and might have salvaged the MCU's multi-verse. Ultimately, it wasn't Jonathan Majors that was the problem in the MCU's multi-verse; it was stories that neither resonated with audiences nor moved the overall story forward in ways this audience had come to expect with Marvel. Although with Majors being all the Kangs, his personal downfall certainly didn't help.

Now if this is simply an evil character that RDJ is going to portray, then I can be good with that. Another thought focuses on the directors of the next Avengers movies, who already have proven themselves above and beyond all other directors in this overall franchise, and then some, by making the last two Captain America movies and the last two Avengers (3 of those are at the top of my MCU rankings, with the 4th coming in behind the original Iron Man and Avengers movies).

Give us good stories centered around what I would say is a more recognizable villain than Thanos was prior to 2012 when we first got a glimpse of him, and these movies will probably return to the 2008-2019 form.

Yeah I hope that's not the case either. It would really make Stark's character be taken down a peg. He had such a heroic ending with meaning and gravity. Don't screw with that. They already tried chipping away at the character of Steve Rogers in the Falcon/Soldier series…please don't do it any further with the Avenger OG's. Spend more time developing the new heroes instead of picking apart the others.

I hope RDJ is unrecognizable like Brolin was as Thanos. Though the whole move just seems odd. Why not find another great actor from outside the Marvel umbrella to come in and make this character his own like Brolin did?

Seems like a desperation move on Marvel's part to keep interest in the MCU. Obviously RDJ is incredible and represents the heart of the original MCU. It hasn't been the same since he left. Couple that with the supposed Steve Rogers series on Cap returning the Infinity Stones.. and it feels like Marvel is longing to reclaim the magic they had with the original characters.

I think the Russo brother who announced it mentioned that he is playing Victor Von Doom right before the RDJ reveal.

But easily could just be a Tony Stark variant who was named differently
