I assume this will be explained away by the multiverse. Otherwise, it would be really weird for everyone to ignore the fact that Tony Stark is now a bad guy.

I'm Ok with it, but only if they make RDJ's Strauss character from Oppenheimer. It's the multiverse - anything is possible.
If I had to guess, everyone from Earth 616 assumes he's the Tony Stark from the Fantastic Four's universe, and maybe welcomes him with open arms? While he either goes along with it or planned it that way? But then, at some point, reveals that he's actually Doom?

Rumor is, Doom is set up in some way, shape, or form at the end The Fantastic Four (I refuse to First Steps yet). Like a cameo tease. But given this news, I have no idea in what capacity.

1. 'First Steps' is dumb and I think everyone is tired of origin stories
2. The FF graphics make me hopeful for a FF/Fallout crossover.

So it sounds like he could literally just be *a* Tony Stark who becomes Doom instead of Iron Man. In other words, he's never named Victor von Doom, and basically becomes bizarro, evil Iron Man in his universe, who ultimately takes on the "Doom" moniker for some reason? If so, that could be kind of cool, I guess? He's like a version of Stark/Iron Man who was never humbled by the attack/stint in the cave in the first movie. Something along those lines...

I'm actually very optimistic about this. Gotta remember this is RDJ we're talking about. I don't think he comes back unless he's 100% sold and bought in to this idea and believes it's something the fans will like.

I dunno. If he's really a Tony Stark gone rogue, then this puts a black spot on one of the best character growth story arcs ever.
If I remember correctly, the comic book Doom can travel to other worlds. Maybe this Tony Stark/Doom learns about the sacrifices of his variant and does not feel humanity was grateful enough for it.
Edit because I am nerding out: Maybe this Tony Stark is from Latveria. Doom could be the title given to the leader of Latveria. He uses his genius and narcissism to rise to power in Latveria.

- We're finally heading somewhere again, with a clear plan, forward momentum, building toward two set-in-stone Avengers movies with announced directors, etc. It's been well over five years since we've had this feeling, and it's a welcomed one regardless of the casting.
- It's only going to take three years to see it all play out. Actually, at this point, just under three years. I was convinced they were going to push both Avengers movies back a year, but am pleasantly surprised they didn't. So now this whole thing finally comes to end in May 2027, at which point it sounds like they'll be making the full pivot to the X-Men.

Yeah, it is. I'm guessing it's a lot of sound stages? Maybe The Volume? That said, Matt Shankman, the director, has worked in TV a ton, so he's at least used to shooting fast and quick turnarounds.

yup.
They killed him in one of the most poignant and iconic cinematic character deaths in our lifetime...and it just feels like (and I hate myself for saying this about a comic book character) it's desecration of his grave. Let him rest in peace!
It just feels like it throws endgame away and if there is any character that I feel like they should have made untouchable for that, it's Stark.
As I type this, my brain is screaming to leave Steve Roger's alone as well..but still.
