RDJ coming back, if true, this early does not bode well for the future of the MCU.

RDJ is the guy you bring back 10-15 years after endgame, payoff for the now parents who grew up with the OG MCU and can tell their kids all about what it was like when iron man was the star at the theatre.

Not now. Not this close to him leaving in a perfect swan song and saving the universe. If he's back this early, MCU is panicking.

****, I hadn't seen endgame yet

The Marvels digging into the nostalgia and dropping in a Valkyrie cameo for the final trailer. Happily taking my daughters to see it Saturday night; only their third Marvel movie in the theater.

Good! After all the crap that's gone down they need to go all in on this and let the artists paint with every tool in their tool box!!!

Fandango is offering $15 off Imax tickets for The Marvels on opening weekend. I'd say the writing is on the wall.

Was always lukewarm toward this. I'll likely just wait until it shows on D+.

Yeah, I just checked my 6:30 PM Thursday primetime screening at the Chinese Theater IMAX and was shocked to see so few tickets sold. Two days out and I've never seen a showing for a Marvel movie this sparse on opening night...

We have a funeral this weekend so probably won't see it till next week. Writing certainly appears to be on the wall for Marvel right now. Unless this is somehow really good and word of mouth gets rolling, this thing is probably going to be a bust.

Marvel fatigue appears to be at its peak right now.

I'll probably read the plot on Wikipedia after it comes out.

Then watch on D+ at some point.

With Deadpool 3, Captain America: Brave New World, and Thunderbolts, I do think Marvel will bounce back next year, and then especially in 2025. They'll never be anywhere near 2019 hype levels again, but yeah, this certainly feels like the low point, and hopefully the only place to go is up from here.

Though, as I mentioned last week, it *will* be kind of fun to watch The Marvels and the Loki season two finale back-to-back, on the same night this week, with setups for the future of the MCU promised in both, even if only teases. That's really the only reason I'm seeing The Marvels, to try and make an "event" out of Thursday night, and recapture event a hint of that old MCU hype.

I'm holding out hope that 'The Marvels' will turn out decent, but I'm already seeing individuals using 'toxic people' as an excuse for its potential failure. That doesn't give off a positive signal IMO.

"Toxic people"? WTF does that even mean?

People who are hating on the movie, before they even see it, because they hate Brie Larson, see the movie as woke feminist propaganda, promoting girl power, etc.

That's kinda what I thought, remembering what happened around Captain Marvel in the first place.

Some people need to learn to just enjoy comic book movies for what they are and ignore that crap.

Agreed.

In this instance, though, while those "toxic people" definitely exist, and need to get a life, Disney (or anyone) blaming them for The Marvels tanking feels disingenuous. When it's mostly due to general disinterest, the current state of the MCU, two of the three leads having been introduced in Disney+ series, etc.

It's probably going to do pretty poorly, between the Marvel fatigue, all the talk of rewrites / redos, the fact that they don't have much of a through line for plots set up, the continuing odd backlash on Brie Larson, and the fact that none of them have been out there able to promote it because of the strike. That's really a shame for Iman Vellani who plays Kamala Khan and is just a nonstop bundle of energy - her making the talk show rounds and bouncing around all the kid-friendly social media avenues probably would have sparked some additional interest.

Regardless i"m excited to enjoy it with my kids and excited to see where they push the story to. This is the first legit team-up movie in this Phase as far as I can recall, assuming DS2 and NWH were part of Phase 4. And it's always nice to see Frozone Windu again.

Overall, I'm definitely thinking/hoping it'll be a fun movie. What little has leaked so far points to it being "fine" if not fun. Put simply, if it bombs, it likely won't be because it's a bad movie. It's just one that not a lot of people seem to care about seeing opening weekend.

Captain Marvel has been pretty dull so far. I don't know think that's Brie Larsons fault at all, it's a superwoman problem where they didn't bother to write any emotional challenges

Kamala Khan is pretty great like you say though. Also a character with waaaay more depth. The actress is a perfect fit too.
