Started checking out some reviews on YouTube now that the embargo has lifted on Wakanda Forever. (Critic score on RT doesn't mean much for me on this one, as I didn't like the first movie.)

Main thing I'm hearing is that it's too long.

Really enjoyed the first one but the trailers have not done it for me. This will be the first Marvel movie I don't see on opening weekend.

The ONLY thing that disappoints me is how seemingly they've revealed too much plot in the trailers. I'll refrain from specifically mentioning it but I was hoping the big mystery point of the movie would ONLY be revealed in the actual showings. But maybe im wrong and it will only be in the movie.
I haven't seen it yet (obviously)… but I am very much looking forward to it.

I don't think BP2 will have nearly the critical force field that 1 did. People are ready to crap on the MCU wherever they can.

Given what they had to do to even pull this movie off at all, I'll gladly take "too long" as the primary complaint. They had to rewrite the thing less than 2 years ago.

My only concern with BP2 is who shoulders Chadwick's load. He was electrifying on screen throughout Civil War and very charismatic in BP1. I'm hoping for some heavy doses of Angela Bassett and Winston Duke, who I also want to play Yordan Alvarez when they made the biopic of the 2022 Astros.

Reviews are varied here but I think we'd all agree it's pretty beautifully shot and the art direction is fantastic. If it's one you have an interest in I'd say worth a theater visit.

The emotion and the spectacle alone are absolutely worth the trip to the theater. While watching, I even enjoyed it more, and found it more interesting than, the first Black Panther (granted, I'm in the camp that thinks the first movie was average). That said, the minute I walked out of the theater, and especially in the days since, the plot really started to unravel for me. It's one of those blockbusters that's needlessly complicated and contrived, making you long for the laser-focus and straightforwardness of something like Top Gun: Maverick.

I hate those glass breaking moments when you realize that some elements of story and writing make absolutely no sense and could be fixed in the simplest ways.

I actively try to turn my brain off, but marvel has been really off lately.

That's a great way to put it.

Speaking of Marvel being really off lately, with Wakanda Forever marking the final installment, I can't believe phase four is already over, and came and went like it did. Big picture, plot-wise, it feels like nothing happened. I know there were certain developments here and there, and sure, there were some decent character arcs, I guess (though not many), but man, what a dud of a phase, save for No Way Home.

That said, I at least have faith in what's to come, especially now that we finally have more Avengers movies announced as our North Star(s), so to speak. I'm super excited for the next two theatrical installments (Ant-Man 3 and Guardians 3), and even Secret Invasion looks cool and like it's something that will at least move the overall plot forward. In other words, the MCU has all the making for a great winter/spring, and even the entires I'm not crazy about in 2024 - Cap 4 and Thunderbolts - also at least feel like movies that will advance the overall plot in interesting ways.

I get that we needed a pallet cleanser of sorts after Endgame, and some time for the characters (and the audience) to catch their collective breath and reflect. And I know that both Covid and Boseman's death obviously wreacked havoc on Marvel's phase four plans. I just really hope that, starting with Ant-Man (and a proper introduction to Kang) in February, phase five finally gets the ball rolling again.

Actually, it looks like the Guardians Christmas Special technically marks the end of phase four next week, which doesn't really change anything, re: the above. At least we'll hopefully end phase four on a fun little high note?
