I'm sorry, but absolutely nothing about this looks good, even visually. This looks worse than even a SyFy show, in every conceivable way. I'm to the point where I truly do not understand how people watch network dramas.
From that trailer, the set concept designers deserve to be fired

Well, seeing as I watch all those SyFy shows, I guess I can go ahead and admit that I'm still gonna watch this one.

Who wanted an Inhumans TV show??? Or movie for that matter. Can anyone honestly say that the Inhumans are their favorite? I mean Lockjaw is a novelty, but after that.........

An inhumans movie might have been cool if Agents of Shield hadn't made them a major plot for 2+ seasons.

And his Inhuman "royal family"? Never heard of them.

superhero shows just aren't meant for network cable. Stick to reality tv and dramas...you just can't operate on a cable budget for what this material demands.

And count me amongst those (as few as there appears) who would have been pumped for an Inhumans movie.

I would argue Supergirl has excellent production value. And that's with a CW budget now.

I've been reading old comics and the Inhumans have some good appearances, but so far they've been almost exclusively in interaction with the Fantastic Four. Their drama, by itself, isn't as interesting.

The more I read, the more convinced I am that Marvel could do great things with the Fantastic Four. News that Fox may be planning an animated movie to keep the rights is very disappointing, if true.

this. when the movie was announced, it was assumed that they would use the inhumans as a proxy for the x-men in the MCU. then SHIELD started using them and kinda played that out.

My gut feeling is that Marvel knows they face lower expectations with more obscure characters. There may be more room for artistic license when a smaller portion of the audience has defined ideas about the characters. The Guardians of the Galaxy weren't a huge comics brand, but they made a great movie without many fans griping about how it compared to the comics they read as kids. Doesn't mean the Inhumans will be good, but I wonder if there's a little strategy here.

The other consideration is, if they're going to keep expanding the TV/cinematic universe, how many unused marquee properties do they have left? I mean, there are even internet rumors about a Ka-Zar movie, which seems ridiculous to me.

There are a few that seem perfect for Netflix. Moon Knight and Blade in particular.

Not sure how I feel about network tv comic book shows. Having to go cheap on special effects really neuters something like Inhumans. I'm guessing Triton won't be appearing? He's a scaly green-skinned fish man.

Really good review that dives a bit into the genre as a whole and what it can be going forward...

I feel like that's where Marvel has been going for a little while, but maybe they can lean into it a bit more. Winter Soldier is political thriller, Ant-Man is a heist film, Spider-Man is a high school film, Black Panther may be back to geopolitical thriller.

Hopefully the corporate overlord will keep sky lasers out of all the upcoming films, unless it really, really calls for it.

Spider-Man is currently hovering around 93% on RT, which we all know is the sweet spot. Actually it's 94% right now so it better drop a point.

And Thor: Ragnarok looks like Buckaroo Banzai-style craziness. It even has Jeff Goldblum in it.

That doesn't slow down Supergirl and all the aliens they show. Lynda Carter plays an alien that shifts back and forth to human form. Same with J'onn J'onzz.

There was a debate in the Wonder Woman thread, stemming from claims that a film with 93% critical and fan ratings is undeniably great. Anything with that reception is a masterpiece, apparently.

For sure. So it seems odd that the above mentioned critic implies that Spiderman is the first film where Marvel has taken this tact.

Don't forget that also made the film immune to criticism. And anyone who enjoyed it but didn't think it was amazing is in denial.

Exactly. I think we all learned a very important lesson....when CrazyDayDuck starts talking about WW, just quietly turn and walk away.

What I think is interesting there, as you've already alluded to, is that they can take those more obscure characters and turn them into stars. Even Iron Man wasn't THE character until the first film and RDJ turned him into an icon.

They've got a massive universe to pull from, though they certainly are starting to have to move away from their marquee characters a bit at this point.

I'm really curious to see where they go for the next phase, I have a feeling we'll see an MCU with Spidey, Black Panther, and probably Sam Wilson as Cap as key players, but I'm not sure where else they might go if they start to phase older characters out.
