I suppose I should have seen that coming. In a pragmatic sense, the "purpose" of any of these shows is "to make money." But I don't necessarily mean it like that.

Given the article linked above, and Joss Whedon's comments recently, I find myself questioning the creative purpose of the show. It all just seems a little weird. For as Hyda-focused as the show can be, the Avengers claim to have finished off Hydra 15 minutes into the film. For as Shield-focused as the show (obviously) is, none of the characters got a phone call from Nick Fury to join him on the helicarrier.

I don't know... I don't know what I want to happen. I guess I'm just curious where it's going. Like I said above, setting up a movie that is now 4 years away seems a bit strange, as is representing a dead organization. The longer it runs parallel to the movies but remaining entirely on the sidelines, the more and more I question its purpose. Aside from money, which I suppose is the only real purpose for these things.
From a general viewpoint I look at the movies as the big event type stories, with the TV shows the granular stories that are more day to day, though AoS has really kicked things up a notch this season.

As far as them being mentioned in the movies, how often do you comment about the other areas of your work and how they keep you able to do your job? Give props to your IT team very often?

Regardless, in the movie they also mention that they had hit several Hydra bases before this one, having watched AoS it is loosely implied that they hit all of these bases on information/guidance provided by Coulson and the AoS team. And AoS also put Hydra in the position where they were down to pretty much only Strucker as the last (for now) Hydra head.

And after last week's AoS Whedon put out a tweet that implies that he may be rethinking his comments about the continuity of the show(s) and the movies.

Why are people getting up in arms about there being 2 gauntlets... Thanos has one, and the other is on Asgard... Seems like if would make more sense if you had one for each hand and ll the gems on one of them for it to work properly... The gems are still all over the galaxy as well..we aren't being Michael Jackson over here having one sparkly glove... 2 seems like the better choice
The Debt

But why have two gauntlets with 6 sockets? Are there 12 infinity stones? Sure why not! Why are there finite number of infinity stones? There should be infinite number of all powerful stones....and gauntlets....with infinity sockets.

I'm just saying 2 gauntlets sounds better, with 6 gems total ... So one is a blank, but you need it in order for the main one to work...

**Age of Ultron spoilers - I'll be listing that for a while until it's assumed that everyone has seen it**

I'm ALL for the new team at the end of AoU. Not only does it reflect the constantly-changing nature of teams in the comic universe, but it gives some clout and respect to two of the most legit sidekicks in Rhodey and Wilson. I like both of the actors and it's good to see them get a chance at a bigger role in this universe. Not entirely sure if they'll get that much time in the sun, with the Civil War threatening to change things up even further, but hopefully they will.

That said, I want to pose a question to you all: What does Falcon bring to the team that War Machine doesn't already? He can fly, but so can WM and Vision. He has guns and military knowledge, but so does WM. He's a soldier, but so is WM.

From a cynical viewpoint, he's just War Machine with less firepower and a lot less protection. Might need to upgrade the suit, or give him some kind of bit that sets him apart from Rhodes. He fit in well in Winter Soldier, but once you add a Stark suit to the mix, he gets outclassed really quickly.

Thoughts? Like I said, I like the actor and the character, so I want him to be more than a poor man's War Machine.

Falcon brings a black dude to the grou....oh wait wm already does that.

On the bright side, I guess they could kill off one and still have their token black guy.

With civil war tho, wm will go to tony, Falcon to rogers. Can you imagine them picking teams on the playground.

Tony: I'll take rhodie.
Rogers: I could take the hulk, the dude with the infinity stone, the norse god, for round one of the draft team rogers chooses: the highlander 2 ripoff.

Yeah, I'm not really sure why people are hung up on the existence of more than one gauntlet either. It's the stones that are important, not really the gauntlet they are contained in.

Discussion question:

I know all the hype is now centered around Civil War, and rightly so, because it sounds awesome, but... what do y'all expect out of Ant-Man? Do you think we'll be seeing Paul Rudd in any future Marvel movies after this one? I suppose that may depend entirely on the box office success of this one, kind of like Guardians.

But overall, what are y'alls hopes for this one? Especially from comic book fans.

Not a comic book reader at all, but I hope that they're able to let Rudd be as Rudd-y as possible in his Ant Man role. He's one of my favorite comedic actors right now. Of course, he'll have to dial it down a bit to PG/PG-13 levels, but I think his natural comedic chops, and Marvel's "We basically just print money now!" skills at movie making will make this a good addition to the Marvel Universe. I hope it leads to his position in other future movies, too.

I expect Ant Man to be the next piece in the great puzzle that is the MCU. I think it will be funny and clever.

I think that it will be the tipping point for Civil War as well, as we'll see the proliferation of supers into the general population for the first time. I think this will include, or at least set the stage for whatever large event triggers the standoff between Cap and Tony. For the first time we'll see the actions of an amateur hero create some disaster or other.

I think in the larger picture we'll see Ant Man join the team. He will bring a rogueish character to the Avengers for the first time, and provide some if the comic relief that we've relied on Tony for.

on the AoU spoiler podcast, they were speculating that Bucky may be the catalyst for the super hero registration.

We know that Tony's parents were killed by Hydra. What if it is found out that Bucky killed them? We know that Cap wants to "save" Bucky, but Stark will want him dead.
jabberwalkie09
How long do you want to ignore this user?

I don't know if Bucky will be a bad guy again. Since he saved Cap at the end of CAP2, its possible that they will try to set him on some redemptive arc. Though, I can see him causing trouble for the Avengers in his search to do so which may bring it about the registration.

Here is my 3-tiered plot prediction. No spoilers from the comics or anything.

The fallout will happen pretty quickly, maybe even before the start of the film. I'm thinking that Tony will be head of SHIELD by about 10 minutes into the film, if not in the end credits of Ant Man. He'll be tasked with recreating the Avengers Initiative in a formal way with international oversight. Cap will obviously disagree and walks out, going underground.

During the credits we get an IM2 style montage showing Cap and Stark recruiting.

Storyline 1: Stark is ordered to arrest Cap and his Secret Avengers when the deadline for them to surrender passes. Stark's Avengers pursue Cap and his team while Stark tries to bring Wakanda into the Council. Most of this isn't on screen except for skirmishes between heroes and some Stark screen time out of the suit.

Storyline 2: Cap's team conducts raids on SHIELD facilities to free compatriots and gather resources. They are also trying to keep on with the Avengers' work, probably hunting Klaw or some other tangent from AoU. Cap tries to convince Wakanda to stand up to the Council, citing his relationship with Panther's father or grandfather.

Storyline 3: Falcon is closing in on Bucky, who is hunting the men who robbed him of his life. In the course of this, they stumble onto whatever larger threat is posed by Klaw.

Ultimately we get lots of intermittent fights between heroes, but they are forced to come together in the end.

The one big missing piece to me is who the Big Bad is. I don't see that being Klaw.

Set for release in the United States on May 6, 2016, "Captain America: Civil War" is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo (Marvel's "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," "Community") from a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely ("Captain America: The Winter Solider," Marvel's "Captain America: The First Avenger"). The film returns Chris Evans ("Captain America: The Winter Soldier," Marvel's "Avengers: Age of Ultron") as the iconic Super Hero character Steve Rogers/Captain America along with Robert Downey Jr. ("Avengers: Age of Ultron," Marvel's "Iron Man 3") as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson ("Avengers: Age of Ultron," "Captain America: The Winter Soldier") as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Sebastian Stan ("Captain America: The Winter Soldier," "Captain America: The First Avenger") as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie ("Avengers: Age of Ultron," "Captain America: The Winter Soldier") as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Paul Bettany ("Avengers: Age of Ultron," "Iron Man 3") as The Vision, Jeremy Renner ("Avengers: Age of Ultron," Marvel's "The Avengers") as Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Don Cheadle ("Avengers: Age of Ultron," "Iron Man 3") as Jim Rhodes/War Machine and Elizabeth Olsen ("Avengers: Age of Ultron," "Godzilla") as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch.

After his debut in Marvel's "Ant-Man" on July 17, 2015, Paul Rudd ("Ant-Man," "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues") will make his first appearance alongside the Avengers as Scott Lang/Ant-Man in "Captain America: Civil War.

"The film also includes outstanding additional cast, including Chadwick Boseman ("42," "Get on Up") as T'Challa/Black Panther, Emily VanCamp ("Captain America: The Winter Soldier," "Revenge") as Sharon Carter/Agent 13, Daniel Brhl ("Inglourious Basterds," "Bourne Ultimatum"), Frank Grillo ("Captain America: The Winter Soldier," "Warrior") as Brock Rumlow/Crossbones, William Hurt ("A History of Violence," Marvel's "The Incredible Hulk") as General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross and Martin Freeman ("The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies").

"Captain America: Civil War" picks up where "Avengers: Age of Ultron" left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

So, basically, this is Avengers: Age of Ultron minus Thor, Hulk and Ultron, but adding...

Ant-Man
Black Panther
Spider-Man
The Winter Soldier
Crossbones
General Ross
Martin Freeman
Emily VanCamp
Daniel Bruhl

And again, this is all in addition to...

Iron Man
Captain America
Black Widow
Hawkeye
Falcon
War Machine
Scarlett Witch
The Vision

Holy hell, that has to be the most insane cast ever assembled.

Right, I understand that is pretty much the point of the movie as the title implies. I guess if he turns out to be Baron Zemo, that means that Hydra lives? I mean, Rumlow is back so I guess it's a reasonable assumption.
