But with the MCU setup, it is hard to see how Cap can justify his stance.

In the MCU, the governments of the earth are concerned about Heroes, and they should be.
Avengers 1 = baddie is brother of Thor
Avengers 2 - baddie is created by Stark
Cap 2 - baddie is Hydra/corruted Bucky
The Avengers are "responsible" for a lot of their villains and the resulting damage.

After CA2, there is no more SHIELD. The Avengers are not accountable to anyone, and they act on an international basis (they were flying into South Africa, Sarcovia, etc).

They are acting internationally with no oversight. You REALLY think governments would just allow them in ALL
THE TIME?

And from what we can tell, Bucky goes sort of rogue in this movie, triggering the immediate fight, and I guess Cap is supporting not hurting/killing him (which is likely Iron man's take.

So in reality Stark is correct, there should be SOME accountability and oversight of the group. What that is and to whom, is of course up for consideration.

Well from Cap's stance I can understand his lack of wanting oversight since HYDRA had penetrated the highest levels of SHIELD and might happen again with a new group providing oversight.

Right now I'm Team Cap based on my little knowledge of the Registration Act in the comics and whatnot, but depending on how the movie plays it out that may change.

Yeah, like I said earlier, in the comics I was all in 100% on Cap's side. In the MCU, like you said, his side of things seems much more shaky than Stark's.

In fact, they've almost reversed the positions of the two sides when it comes to using violence to achieve their ends. In the comics, Stark was the one using questionable methods (even killing other supers) to get his mission accomplished. Judging from the trailers, its looking like its Bucky and Cap that are pushing the ante up (not sure how they down Rhodes, but he's not doing so hot from the looks of it).

Kind of disappointed in the spidey suit. That almost looks like Green Lantern levels of bad CGI, almost looks plasticy and way too rounded instead of conforming to a person's body.
Um, that final shot of him on the truck/with the shield is entirely practical EXCEPT for the eyes.

Hard to support your assertion there.
Then the costume is overly shiny because it looks like Macy's Day Parade blimp

I am just going by what one of the Marvel related account tweeted earlier today.

I think it looks fine.

My take on the MCU stance of Cap is that Bucky is no longer a hit man, something happens that Bucky is being blamed for, and Cap (assuming or knowing Bucky's innocence) is helping his friend against the injustice of it all. He already disagreed with Stark's view in Ultron of taking "precautions" to prevent baddies from doing bad things...which almost played out in Winter Soldier. If Bucky was really doing bad things, I think Cap would (again) do everything in his power to stop him. Cap isn't going to go along with Bucky just b/c they are friends if Bucky is up to no good. One thing to keep in mind is that Crossbones is back, and he was Hydra, so clearly there is something we don't know about that is going to be stirring this pot, and likely pushing the government control angle.

Tony is trying to prevent the death of his friends, which he saw in his Wanda-induced vision, and create some sort of global homeland security. So, naturally, he is going to side with the oversight/regulation of governments. He likely feels some guilt about the destruction in Africa and Sokovia. His perspective is the ends justify the means, imo. Cap ain't about that.

Potential spoliers, that's all I've seen from the Civil War comics though so I don't really know too much more and we don't know if this will even be in the movie.
Love that speech. The way he phrases it about standing up for what you believe in. Get's me every time.

How anyone can twist that around to be about SJW is beyond me and someone REALLY reaching.

I am so behind on my nerd-dom. I am behind on Arrow, Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Way behind on Agents of SHIELD, haven't even started on Agent Carter, I even have 2 episodes left of Jessica Jones. I have Sandman and Transmetropolitan in my email waiting to be read.

My life right now revolves around MS150 and multiple sclerosis and bicycling. Once I get that event in the books, I can get back to the nerd stuff!

Also, TEAM CAP 4 LYFE! NOONE PUTS BUCKY IN A CORNER! (except that one time where Hydra totally put Bucky in the corner but, still...NOT ANYMORE!)

Watched it again the other day. Really holds up even on repeated viewings. A well crafted, exciting movie.

Cap's speech is saying to hold true to your convictions even if the whole world tells you you're wrong. If you have your own principals and follow your own code, you can't be "wrong".

How is that right? I'm sure Hitler thought he was right even though most of the world thought he was wrong.

"You know, the last time I was in Germany, and I saw a man standing above everybody else, we ended up disagreeing.".

How is Cap different if he wants to be able to be above the rest of society without restrictions or limitations, even if he believes he is doing it for the right reasons?

Also, it's a comic book speech from a morally sound, fictional hero. Try not to build your life philosophy around it

With Hydra out there corrupting every form of government, I'm not down with oversight and regulations. I gotta roll with Cap on this one.

Again, you can find me hanging out with Scarlet Witch.

Well, if your principals include the genocide of millions of people, maybe the world should stand up to you. There is a difference between having convictions and mass murder.

Exactly. People like to imagine Nazi Germany didn't happen without the complicit will of the German people at the time. I'm not saying all Germans then were terrible people, but many of them were too afraid to stand up for what was right. That's the kind of courage Cap is talking about here.
