It does seem a little backwards, though I suppose he'll have a lot more buzz about him when people go "remember that badass fight in Civil War?" instead of "oh I guess this is another Marvel movie."

I assume there's some reason for having it in between Infinity Wars, and not before part 1. But I can only guess as to what that might be

Honestly, this is the best argument.

I wonder how much they had lined out for the Black Panther movie before it got pushed back to make room for Spider-Man and how much it will change now that it's between the two Infinity War movies.

Yeah, they said that what they were going to do with the spin off was going to be apparent by the end of the season. But at this point, I would probably say that their story is fairly tied to AoS.

Got on a little bit of a rabbit trail this morning. Those zergnet articles really are clickbait but they at least have worthwhile information. A few nuggets for yall:

1) From Q&As with the Guardians of the Galaxy director, we're not likely to get Nova in Guardians 2. Shame. He wants Quill to be the only earthling we see, for now.

2) Joss Whedon said in an interview that Marvel wouldn't split Infinity War into two movies if they didn't have to, so we should be getting two big films. I suppose this stands to reason - it's not like Hunger Games, Harry Potter or Game of Thrones where strictly following a certain source material would lead to two uneven halves of the same book.

3) In the same interview, Whedon said something about there being more villains than just Thanos, which also makes sense. He'll need lackies, or perhaps there will be call-backs, in whatever his plans are for domination. Still, exciting to think about.

4) There are some plot elements and things from the Edgar Wright Ant-Man script that ended up being brought back into the final script, so hopefully the version of Ant-Man we get won't be too different than whatever was originally intended.

5) I guess it's purely speculation, but I've heard numerous things (as you all may have) about Black Panther playing that kind of "neutral" or torn role in Civil War that I guess Spider-Man played in the comics. Also read a rumor somewhere (maybe this thread?) about a supposed Black Panther / Hawkeye fight. Of course that could be wrong, or brief (like any Cap/Stark fight in AoU), or cut entirely (like the rumored Thor/Vision fight) by the time the film arrives.

That's all I remember. Just food for thought for anyone who is currently addicted to the MCU like I am.

Unless he's finally taken care of in Thor 3, which happens first. How many times can he feign redemption?

Does Loki ever become a legitimate good guy in the comics, even if only for a few months? I would love it if he became good, even if he was killed soon after.......... though that's pretty much what we were led to believe happened in Thor 2.

Yeah, I seriously doubt Loki lasts past Thor 3. They're really going to have to start showcasing Thanos front and center in Infinity War Part I, so I can't see Loki having any kind of a significant role in that.

Maybe, but Loki is a fan favorite, and I'm sure that will factor into things.

Loki could survive and then just get completely dominated at the start of Infinity War 1. Give Thanos a lot of clout.

Or, escape Ragnarok, flee from Thanos and warn Thor, having his one good-guy moment before getting completely dominated by Thanos at the start of Infinity War 1, giving Thanos a lot of clout.

Or Thanos could completely dominate Vision, giving him a lot of clout.

Basically, they could easily go the route of "Vision lifting the hammer" and have him completely dominate someone for insta-credibility. For the uninformed, Thanos is all talk at this point. It could be a quick way to prove him worthy of Big Bad status.

Someone will be dominated! Mark my words.

But here's a question... what will happen between Infinity War part 1 and 2 that would allow Black Panther and Captain Marvel to have their own movies? What causes the brief break between Thanos-centric fighting?

Or better yet, if part 1 involves Thanos gathering the stones, how will it be an Avengers film? Currently only the Mind Stone is on Earth.

Black Panther / Captain Marvel could both be prequels/origin stories, I guess. Either that, or Thanos basically whipes out everyone save for Black Panther / Captain Marvel, causing the original Avengers to have to re-assemble for Part II, which we know will happen. But even that doesn't make total sense. So, short answer: I have no idea.

Exactly. That's what I was referring to. It's pretty much known at this point that Iron Man / Captain America / Thor / Black Widow / Hulk / Hawkeye won't be in Infinity War Part I. Question is, where do they go during that time?

Good question. But also - unless Panther and Marvel are prequels, which I kind of doubt, - where is Thanos between 1 and 2? Is he forced to retreat slightly? Does he leave Earth's heroes battered and broken, and promise to return with an army? Etc. etc.
