That slap was awful. Did not make sense at all, and it was extremely effeminate.

I'm debating on when to read the books. In a perfect world, I'd like to watch the whole series (if I continue to enjoy it) and then read the books, just to get a different perspective than from, say, Game of Thrones, in which I read the books and then have expectations for the show which are easily disappointed.

I think I will probably end up reading the books sometime after season 1 though. I can't wait for a story for 5 seasons knowing it's already in print.

The series is gaining momentum; episode 2 was better than 1. I enjoyed the jailhouse showdown between Eichorst and Setrakian. The intro of Vasiliy Fet (exterminator) was good too. This show has more gore than I anticipated, but I like it.

I agree that this episode was a lot stronger than last week.

The guy that slapped Eph was French, so...

I was kind of confused on what his occupation was initially because the badge looked like a normal cop badge. But, when he closed the restaurant that pretty much cleared up any confusion.

Episode 2 was better, hoping that the third episode builds on it.

What are the vampire "rules" on The Strain? Like, will the chick the goth singer bit be infected now? What about the French girl's dad (or is he just dead dead)?

Kind of embarrassed I know this, but I'm pretty sure this was used in Twilight with Edward's dad.

This episode was remarkably better than the first one, which I still thought was great.

Ephraim's AA meeting felt a little contrived. But that's really my only complaint on this one.

The scene in prison between the jew and the nazi was absolutely incredible.

I enjoyed it a lot, especially the jailhouse scene.

The only gripe I have with this episode is using ironic music (kids song during the bathtub scene) during what should have been a scary scene. It happened last episode too. It's so cliche in Hollywood now. Cut it out.

It's got quite a few shaky moments, but it's good for a summer popcorn series so I'm sticking with it.

Tonight's episode was pretty awesome, things are picking up.

More spreading of the vampire virus and less child custody hearings, please.

I'm still really intrigued by the story, but mein gott there was some horrid acting and even worse writing in this episode.

Yeah I was more freaked out by his non reaction than the actual event. I wonder what his "doctor" saw when he recommended a urology specialist. Yucky.

While FX and AMC have certainly earned their stripes, shows like this I can't help but think, I wish this was on HBO.

FX has put out some pretty good shows like Justified, American Horrror Story (well the first two seasons), Sons of Anarchy (talk about a group of outlaws failing upwards), The Americans, and The Bridge. I'm hoping The Strain continues to mature, gets past this awkward phase of fleshing out the vampires' changes and Eph's family issues....

Well, got to find out a bit more about the vampires and how they.... work. Other things that were interesting include the radical change of Eph and company's... relationship/objectives.
