Vampire Commandos!

Good finale, sans the crap with the wife. Nora is finally awake. And dammitall, no one died!

So the Master is a rogue elder or whatever. That adds an interesting twist.

Meh. I gave it a season.

Almost all characters are written as complete idiots. For such smart people they have not done a single smart thing yet. In a world where everyone has cameras on them, nothing is being broadcast? Missing people are not being noted?

The acting is hokey. The pacing is non-existent.

The Master is one of the dumbest creature designs in all of horror.

This is just an all around ****ty show.

I really enjoy the show DESPITE how dumb the characters act. Imagine how good it could potentially be!

I wonder how the lead commando kept his nose...

The vampire commando thing is dumb IMO. Overall I liked it and will watch next season.

I accidentally read a spoiler about the commandos, so him having a nose makes sense.

Not a spoiler....

So there are apparently 2 camps of vamps. The "typical" guys, who have the commandos, who know that you have to live in the shadows and not kill all your food. And the "Master", who has an "f' it, our time now" attitude.

I agree with ryamkajr on all counts.

But I'm an idiot so I'll still probably watch next season.

For the readers...without spoilers, how much of the books did season one cover?

Clavell

Pretty much Season 1 = Book 1

Although if remember right the other vampires weren't introduced until book 2. Been awhile though.

It is not a perfect show, but overall fun and entertaining. I am looking forward to Season 2.

Overall the show gets a C+ from me.

The good: I'm a sucker for apocalypse stories. The idea of a vampire war is interesting. The Jew and German back story was cool, I like both their characters. Generally there is enough exposition or horror elements to keep the story rolling and entertaining.

The bad: The show is too illogical even for the fantasy/sci-fi genre. Impossible to buy into an entire week of people disappearing and/or being openly murdered by monsters without the entire US military showing up in Manhattan. Ridiculous to think that a deputy CDC (?) executive is the one responsible for ordering a quarantine of NYC. The "hacking the internet" hand waving they did and then a scene later the kid is able to pinpoint a lost iPhone using the internet. Speaking of the kid, why does the kid exist in this story. Horrible actor (like most kids).

I'm watching the finale now. The moment the gang walks into the theater and sees the vampires on the other stage....I thought they were about to have a guitar hero/rock band showdown.

Bolivar's flowing locks were so amazing the vampiric worm couldn't bear to make it fall out like everyone else.

For those who've read the books, does the writing get any better in books 2 & 3?

I finished the first one and was thoroughly unimpressed. Someone earlier on the thread put it best when they said that it felt like reading a screenplay, albeit a very bare bones screenplay. The show was simply better in every way. Character development in the book was nonexistent.

So....worth it to read the last two books? Or just watch the show?

Nice! But wasn't that a wig though?

Books 2 and 3 are better than 1, but not by a lot. While reading series you could tell it was being written more as a screen play than anything. Give trilogy a B- or C+.

Book 1 was just too repetitive for me as the vampires take over. Introduce character, kill character, next chapter. Luckily the TV series actually minimized that some. Sounds like planning two seasons / book going forward which makes sense.

I thought they got better each one, so 3 was easily the best for me.

Yes, it was a wig. Before he turned, he had taken it off when he was alone. It was a wig he used for his rocker persona.

Just finished binge-watching. This show is a lot less scarier than it would have been if the acting and dialogue weren't so bad. I'll keep watching for Gus and the vampire commandos, though.

do the Ebola diagnoses in Dallas and the CDC's handling of them give anyone else a dark, foreboding feeling???

You're just being silly. Come back as vampires? No way. Zombies maybe though.

So you're saying all the people on that flight were infected, not just one?
Oh crap!
mid90
How long do you want to ignore this user?
mostly I'm talking about how the CDC has done an absolutely crap job so far containing the disease in Dallas, similar to how they dropped the ball in the show because of politics

also, I'm hesitant to believe the recent news story of the nurses' union complaining about lack of proper hazard gear, etc. as it reminds me of the complete bs story about the air system on the plane being responsible for everyone dying (in the show)
Clavell
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Got you. I'm hesitant to believe anything from any union rep.

Wasn't the story that was told tonight regarding the Master told early on in the book? Why the hell did they wait so long to finally tell the audience of how the Master came to be?
Counterpoint

That was cold doing that to the blind kids. Was that in the books?
