One of the biggest stars of wrestling in this century could be headed back to wrestling, if all goes well. CM Punk has been in ongoing talks for a return, sources tell Fightful.

Fightful Select learned last week that CM Punk has been in talks to make a return to pro wrestling as an in-ring performer, with sources indicating that AEW is the most likely landing point. We have no confirmation of a contract officially being signed, a timetable, a set return date, or any creative plans, only that Punk and a company official have had ongoing conversations about an in-ring return.
As with any negotiations, nothing is ever fully confirmed until the deal is actually done and the subject appears on screen.

We have heard of other companies having interest in Punk coming in to work after fans returned, but have not heard of any specific offers or overtures made towards him.

Fightful has not officially confirmed this report with CM Punk himself or All Elite Wrestling officials. We have been told in recent days that higher ups in WWE believe that Punk is headed to AEW.

Punk last wrestled in January 2014 for WWE, and was released later that year. In the years that followed, he pursued a career in mixed martial arts in the UFC, where he officially has an 0-1 record with 1 no contest. In addition to MMA, Punk has worked in commentary roles within the sport, and made his way into acting. He also appeared on WWE Backstage for approximately six months. Aside from his appearances on Backstage, he's only made two appearances in wrestling since leaving WWE -- both in very anonymous masked roles on the independent circuit

CM Punk has been on the verge of returning forever now. The last time this rumor came around, he straight up said it's not true. So, huge grain of salt with this one.

Agreed. But this is probably the most in depth and concrete of all the rumors in the past. Someone at AEW probably leaked it and I imagine the buy rates for all out in Chicago will be there biggest yet with people expecting him to debut.....but yeah. Still not gonna get my hopes up lol

Yeah. I was happy we got a Britt promo last week instead of this match that was supposed to take place. Nyla made that match look rough.

Great episode overall though. Lance ****ing Archer! Saw him at Lions Pride just a couple years ago in lil O'l B/CS.

Agreed. My first live event since Nitro back in '99. A ton of good matches, the crowd energy was awesome and got to see Sting in person one more time. Went with my dad who knows nothing about AEW and he had a great time.

This might have been the best thing of the night.

Thought the show last night was great. Hard to tell how loud it seemed on TV but I felt like it was pretty loud.

My view last night:

Was it as obvious in person when they cut themselves? The camera needed to do a better job of getting off them both when they "got color". It was obvious they went to their wrist bands to get a razor or whatever they used to cut themselves.

Pretty sure I saw when Lance Archer bladed. He was tossed out of the ring right in front of the aisle and was down for a bit and when he got back up he was bleeding. I assume that's when it happened. Didn't see it for Mox though.

Yep!! Camera was on lance as he went to his wrist band and as ref jumped out to assist covering him up i assume. Then cut to mox in ring a lil late. Mox took the punch from archer on the trash can lid and the camera focussed on him as he reached tp get it and roll over. All in all though i loved the show minus nyla and britt match. Nyla is AEWs Nia Jax

NJPW usually does a good job of trying to hide the blading process...AEW can learn and get better.

The Britt vs Nyla match wasn't great by any means, but the crowd loved Britt so much it almost didn't matter. Kaz vs Gallows was the only one that seemed a bit quiet.
