To be clear, A New Beginning is NOT the title, and the current working title (meaning it could still change) is New Jedi Order.

Confusing as hell. What is that second tweet trying to say in English?

All day a rumor was spreading that the title is A New Beginning. The second tweet, however, is saying that Lucasfilm has confirmed that's NOT the actual title. Instead, the current working title is New Jedi Order. A "working title" is simply what a movie is called in-house during pre-production/production, when they haven't yet settled on a final title. They might end up keeping it, they might not. Either way it won't be A New Beginning.

EA HAS CANCELED RESPAWN'S FIRST-PERSON MANDALORIAN GAME

Respawn's Star Wars FPS Is Canceled, But Work on Next Jedi Game, Black Panther and Iron Man Will Continue

I know cancelations happen, but this one is super frustrating, especially with a well-established, successful studio helming it. And EA joining the layoff party for the second straight year is just icing on the cake.

The New Jedi Order is just the name for the era of projects that Rey's movie is set in. The official site updated at the celebration in 2023 with the new breakdown of the timeline. There is literally no new news in any of those tweets.

I get that. I misread the second sentence in that tweet. Came off as a grammatically poor sentence that didn't make sense to me but I think I just misread it.

The news is that the title ISN'T A New Beginning, which Lucasfilm just confirmed. How that's not news in your eyes, I don't know. Yes, we already knew the New Jedi Order bit. But A New Beginning was spreading like wild fire earlier today, and was since debunked. So I was merely posting the debunk, for those who might have seen the earlier "announcement."

I wasn't talking about your posts, I was talking about the tweets.

When the sun came up, we didn't know the title for Rey's movie. We still don't.

So the news was... no news?

Not being a jerk, but it's funny you came on here to post the rumor and the debunk in the same post.

Also, wasn't this movie put on the back burner recently, or was that fake news?

it was inevitable.

lots of over hiring to address "demand" during the covid period when people had more time for games.

lots of hiring chasing GAAS games, that has not panned out.

competition from services like Live vs outright games sales

Plus

Xbox ****ting the bed pretty much around the world.

and

Game dev costs have ballooned phenominally.
Xbox and Live are more Microsoft specific issues. Other things you mention apply in a lot of these layoffs, but looking at the EA situation, it feels a lot different, considering they went through a similar restructuring this time last year, have since staffed up to higher numbers, continue to have great financial numbers, and then still made these layoffs. I don't have firsthand knowledge of their workings, but something feels off about this one in particular.

Some of the titles they sunset make sense (that LotR game looked awful), but killing a Star Wars title by a studio that's built a lot of consumer trust in making Star Wars titles is a real headscratcher to me, especially so soon after announcing it.

People post all kinds of rumors in this thread, from all kinds of suspect sources. In this instance, I figured it was inevitable that the fake title would make it here as well, like most rumors do, given how prominent it was on social media. So I simply decided to preemptively debunk it, and tried to provide the proper context in the process. I had no idea doing so would be met with such confusion/incredulity.

As to whether the movie itself was put on the back burner or not, we still have no idea. All we know is that, movie-wise, the Mando movie is coming next.

anyone still remember when the potential title for the third prequel move was "Star Wars: Circle of the Force?"

Cause I do. Lame as hell

Paging Harry Knowles and his stubborn insistence that one of the prequels would be called "The Creeping Fear."

Sony just did a bunch of layoffs this week, many of those tied to their GAAS push that was a HUGE priority for Jim Ryan. And now that he is gone, they are doing a big course correction. And Sony has been making money, unlike Microsoft.
Oh yeah, like I said, it applies in a lot of layoffs. EA has been successful in its GAAS pushes, though. Madden and whatever the new soccer title is called both make money hand over fist with their microtransactions. Sony, on the other hand, specifically acquired Bungie because they wanted an established GAAS product. You can also probably point to, especially since they were named in the report, of the cancelation of Naughty Dog's multiplayer game. I will say, though, that Sony's also seemed to have a lot to do with the underperformance of their VR 2. The London studio, which focused on VR games, was outright closed.

Since this is a Star Wars thread, though, I'll bring it back around and just say that the cancelation of yet another Star Wars game under the EA banner makes me glad that they no longer have exclusive use of the license. What an absolute disaster that was.

Games as a service. Basically any game designed to keep going perpetually through updates, battle passes, microtransactions, paid expansions, etc.

Spin of of SaaS (software as a service) which is why you now pay monthly for things like word or photoshop instead of just paying a flat rate upfront.

there's supposed to be a new open world star wars game coming out this year...set in between ESB and RotJ that deals with bounty hunters, the pyke syndicate....things like that....

and honestly they can't make enough of this content....if its good the most interesting stories at this point can come from when the Empire is at it's peak and all the little nuances that can be discovered with different stories during that period....

hope this one's good. the detailed video makes this game sound like they put A LOT of thought into this....

game play footage seemingly from somewhere in the beginning....

sounds silly but gotta say...the fact that you get on a ship, take off, and go into space WITHOUT a loading screen seems like it's going to be a pretty immersive experience watching from this video....

hope this is good!

I'm just waiting for a House of Cards type political drama show showing either Palpatine's rise up the ranks of the senate or just a new story in the new republic senate.

Or a Veep type show would be entertaining in that setting. I just want more trade disputes dammit.

Hell, give me a West Wing but set in the High Republic.

I really want ANdor Season 2 to have a Mon Mothma / Palpatine scene. Just one.

Preach!

Caught wind of a video (don't know if it's true)…but apparently the reason we're getting The Acolyte when we are and not getting Andor S2 until next year is due to the budget of the Acolyte being smaller at around 50 million (seems low to me)….

Having that debut before the end of the fiscal year for Disney will help (according to the source) with showing Disney + as being profitable for that fiscal year as the other Star Wars show (can't remember name…the goonies in space one) is coming out during the next fiscal year as is assuming Andor S2.

Take it with a grain of salt but that's what I heard….

Yeah, I'll definitely be playing that one. There's some other interesting ones being worked on as well. Respawn is still working on a sequel to Jedi Survivor and a strategy game of some kind. Quantic Dream is working on one that will probably be like their past games (Heavy Rain, Detroit: Become Human). And there are a couple of others from other studios. I'm just lamenting losing another to the EA machine
