Bought the kids a copy of the Star Wars Holiday Special, let's see if this is as bad as I remember...

You can find bootleg DVD on Amazon. It has a disclaimer about how it was never commercially released, so it's not copyright infringement.

Ouch.... though in my opinion Wraith Squadron would make a much better show.

Yeah, all live action except for a cartoon segment with the first appearance of Boba Fett. I think the cartoon part is on Disney plus. It's Han and Chewy trying to get home for "Life Day". About half of it is Chewy's family talking to each other with no subtitles. Very weird.

* Star Wars came out in 1977 but the figures weren't available until some time in 1978. Christmas that year was a bonanza for Kenner. I recall being out with my dad at Sharpstown Mall late in 1978 when we were stopped by a TV crew from KPRC, who wanted to get a parent's thoughts on Christmas shopping. Dad was asked if there was anything hard to find, to which he answered Star Wars toys. And that is the definition of a Christmas present spoiler. (That year I got the X-Wing, TIE Fighter, 12" figures of Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker, and a few of the regular figures that I had not yet acquired)
Christmas of 1980 I got an AT-AT. That was easily the biggest, most exciting Christmas gift I've ever gotten before or since. We weren't wealthy growing up at all but my parents came through for me that year.
I got one as well. The painstaking movement of the legs to move it. The control inside that let you move the head and shoot the guns The D cattery compartment in the belly. 2 guys driving it and room for 20 more inside if you stuffed them deep.Belton Ag said:

When stuck at work for a crummy bowl game, you celebrate with Lego and Life Day.
Rich m'fers. My prized Star Wars possession was the Snowspeeder. Wanted the Falcon and AT-AT so badly.
However, I had some incredible dogfights between the Snowspeeder and my favorite toy vehicle of all time - the Cobra Rattler A-10 Warthog.

That Snowspeeder was sweet. I got real sick and was supposed get Slave I for being good in the hospital, but when we got to Kay-Bee toys all they had was the snowspeeder. I had a blast with it.
