Interesting comment because I swear I've read that Lucas has claimed he was never going to do 9 movies and that was a myth, but we've heard so many urban legends about the making of Star Wars over the years I've lost sight of what is factual or not.

I believe Lucas has said both. You can pretty much quote him to support anything about how Star Wars developed over the years. He changes his mind a lot (totally fine) and claims that whatever he thinks today is what he thought all along (confusing).
