If Luke is the father, I would have thought he could pick someone better? Sure the argument can be made that he wants her super well hidden, but still, Unkar?
Unless it was a Sith that left Rey there, hoping that a tough childhood would help her turn to the dark side.

(I know it's no longer canon, but in the Darth Plagueis novel, Palpatine did this with a young Maul)

FWIW, it's not really implied, he just straight up says "I know where you come from, before you called yourself Kylo Ren." Although he actually says it differently than most people. He says it like Ky Lo-Ren. I don't think that means anything, but I thought it was weird.

I feel like the church is largely setting information. Tekka, a lifelong explorer, could have some great backstory worth seeing.

Has Jeddah ever been referenced before in cannon, or is the first time we're hearing about it in Rogue One?

Also, it wasn't until a few days ago that it clicked for me that Jedi are from Jeddah, like an Israeli is from Israel.

I don't mean all Jedi are born there. But if I moved to New York and lived their for ten years I'd consider myself a New Yorker. Same basic idea. I was just commenting on the fact that the name "Jedi" - in their world - likely comes from "Jeddah."

It's new, but I suspect the naming convention is backwards from that, with the planet named for the Order and not the other way around. The Jedi are older than lightsabers, which is what we think the planet is all about.

That's nothing. In the original trilogy, none of the characters can decide how to pronounce Leia or Han. Some say "Lay-uh", some "Lee-uh", some "Hahn", and some "Han."
