Because Filoni is in over his head and Kathleen Kennedy prioritized everything EXCEPT classic core Star Wars storytelling in her decision-making.

Mando and Grogu soundtrack came out today by Ludwig Gorrason who did the original soundtrack for the series. I've only listened to a few tracks. "Grogu's World" is an interesting standout so far; almost 8 minutes long. The last track, not even 2 minutes called "It's Your Turn, Grogu" definitely has some Yoda notes layered into it - not obvious, but there.

Re: The Mandalorian & Grogu, I'm seeing a couple fun/good reactions from critics, but by far mostly reactions of the "eh, it's fine" to "boring" to "a bag of ass" variety.

This thing has just never interested me, though I was still up for maybe seeing it in theaters, but probably not anymore now. At least not until it hits streaming.

I already have tickets for Obsession (this weekend), and then both Backrooms and The Breadwinner the weekend of the 29th. But between them all, there's a freaking Star Wars movie - the first in seven years - on Memorial Day Weekend, no less, and I can't believe I have ZERO desire to see it.

What a sad state of affairs.

Filoni needs to not be the guy to lead Star Wars into the new phase. Let him do his animated projects but it's time to stop putting resources to his live action projects. Ashoka s2 could change my mind but I doubt it.

I kind of hate that Star Wars has turned into a TV and animated-show franchise and has lost its power in theaters. Even the movie we're getting is just an extra-long episode or an extra-short season of a good, not great, show.

If this movie had come out soon after Mando S2, and involved both the reunion of Mando/Grogu, as well as Luke, there would have been tremendous enthusiasm for this movie.

Instead, this is coming after a lackluster S3, plus a few years of distance, to where there's basically zero hype about Mandalorian at all.

Great point. The Season 2 finale, with Luke appearing, was easily the most unified moment in the fandom in the last decade. Everyone was ecstatic.

Exactly. I was so hyped on this show after season two.

Granted, I wanted it to be another season or so before Mando and Grogu reunited again, seeing as they needed time apart, doing their own things, to make an eventual reunion feel special.

But then for some insane reason they got back together damn near immediately - in a completely different show - followed by a third season that completely **** the bed / felt off the entire time.

Now, years later, we're supposed to be excited by this?

Ideally, Mando and Grogu should have spent the entire third season apart (having never gotten back together in The Book of Boba Fett), THEN gotten back together in either THIS movie, WITH Luke around as well... or in a fourth season of the show.

It's just so baffling how it came to this.

I think they probably had planned on Mando doing another quest on his own and maybe never reuniting with Grogu or it being seasons down the road, but Disney got scared of shelving Grogu because he is such a big draw for kids.

And its because of the draw that they picked this as the first movie back after 7 years.

But they didn't have to shelve Grogu. I totally would have watched a third season that simply cut back and forth between Mando doing his own thing, on his own mission, and Grogu doing his own thing, training with Luke (and whatever else). There's no reason that couldn't have been a wildly successful season of TV. Game of Thrones and others did that all the time... cut back and forth between storylines that didn't end up crossing paths for years.

You still dont know anything about it other than that persons opinion

I mean, this is basically the opinion I'm seeing across the board so far. Some worse, a couple better. Yes, these are critic reactions, and general audiences will almost assuredly like it more. It doesn't sound like an outright terrible movie. But even a couple of the easiest lays/Star Wars fanboy critics are verbally shrugging their shoulders at this thing after having seen it.

I plan on it, but my opinion won't change that this was probably the least exciting possibility for a brand new Star Wars movie after 7 years.

This is the most clear-cut kids movie Star Wars has put out, other than the animated Clone Wars, since The Phantom Menace.

I don't think any new fans will be made by it. Boys love Mando, all kids that have seen him love Grogu. It will sell a s*ton of merchandise to offset the lackluster box office, but will keep a key demographic - kids who want material possessions - locked in for another couple of years.

I'm hopeful Starfighter will be excellent. I would be interested in an older/wiser Rey movie, but more Finn is not entertaining. I can only hear him scream or yell Woooo so many times.

It certainly sounds like they're balking or have already pulled the plug on the Filoni-verse finale. I think they could salvage that, but it would be hugely expensive because you would need at least 2 of the big 3 in it - Luke & Han, with Chewie and the droids, but that's de-aging Hamill and Ford or going straight CG throughout and having to either be obtuse or controversial about Leia.

Personally, I would love a 2-part knockoff of Zahn's Heir to the Empire books featuring Thrawn, Pelleaon, and what's left of the empire vs. the nascent New Republic. I'd even be down for something along the lines of the Joruus Cbaoth plot line that hooks Luke in the books. Hell if you wanted to, you could have Sam Jackson back as a clone of Mace Windu that the Emperor made after Anakin cut his hand off to make it all relevant, because Mace Clone-du (thank you) could theoretically talk to Luke about Yoda/Obi-Wan/Anakin.

Of course, the real blockbuster is just sitting there begging to be made. The 5 of us who bang the drum for the KOTOR movie every couple of years could write it no problem. Movies and TV shows based on video games have been huge the last few years. Star Wars a few thousand years ago with everything you want built into - Mandalorians, Jedi, Sith, wookie, twileks, tatooine, a whole underwater planet, Korriban, secret identiies, a band of misfits, it's so frustrating that they won't take this amazing property and put it on the big screen.

Already out after a critic's screening last night and it's about what's expected. The best reviews say its nothing incredible but rather simply a fun time, while the worst reviews seem to agree that its OK but simply an extra long episode of the show.

I'm not reading any advance reviews since I have a good idea how they'll go. All I'm looking for, and expecting, is a fun time at the theater for a couple of hours next Friday evening. Give me that - and a finished product better than any of the sequel trilogy - and I'll leave happy.*

This! I would either just tell the prequel KOTOR 1 story of Revan and Malik or Ulic and Nomi's story. Both are good stories and I think would translate nicely.

Movie 1 - Mandalorian vs. Jedi Wars

Movie 2 - Revan and Malak go beyond and encounter the Sith Emperor, find the Star Forge, come back and attack the Republic and it ends with Malak betraying Revan

Movie 3 - the actual story of KOTOR following the game's plot.

Forgot about this incredible Herzog speech. Imagine if the sequel trilogy would have focused/capitalized on this idea, thematically…

Of course, most things about the Sequel Trilogy have aged poorly just on how obvious it has become that JJ truly never had an original take of his own.

It's truly wild they decided to make it up as they went along with one of the most valuable IP's on the planet.

And, I should note, an IP with an extensive catalog of books and comics that you could take ideas from. The market research was already there in terms of what kind of post OT Star Wars stories sold and failed to sell.

Question…this is coming from someone who knows mostly nothing about Star Wars legends, books, comic books, etc….

Started watching the OT with my older boys who'd seen them already because we realized our 8 year old doesn't really remember the OT….so we've gone through ANH and tESB….

The opening text crawl on tESB could have been its own dang movie just like rogue one was to ANH….

It discusses how even though the rebels blew up the death start the empire still knew where they were….

How did they escape Yavin? Where did they go from there? How did they end up on Hoth? How did the relationships grow between rebel leaders, Han and Leia, Luke and Han? How did the millennium falcon end up so badly damaged at the start of tESB? How did Vader end up getting back with the empire? Who did he blame for the death stars destruction? How did the emperor respond?

Coulda been awesome…..

But I'm assuming there's some written stories that have already discussed this?
