I like Brooklyn 99 enough, and I've always been a fan of Samberg, but yeah that was definitely a joke for both of those wins. Hell even Andy himself looked like he was thinking "really??" when he won.

I remember Donal Logue from Blade and this show I used to watch called Grounded For Life. I've always liked him, but I couldn't really see him as Gordon based on those roles. But looking at him now, he could probably definitely pull it off, although I'd think he'd need to get in a little better shape.

Ha, I remember Jimmy the cab driver. Didn't realize it was him. Definitely miss 90's MTV.

Tweet reply from Logue last night...

nerdb*stards ‏@nerdb*stards
@donallogue wacky internet rumor says you're Commissioner Gordon on 'Gotham'. Deny or give us a wink that it's true?

donal logue ‏@donallogue
@nerdb*stards not true! I wish-would be awesome (but who could top Gary Oldman?) From what I heard, Gotham catches Gordon in his late 20's

Before news like this is officially announced, talent straight up lies all the time. For instance, just a couple days before it was official, Paul Rudd publicly said he wasn't Ant-Man, knew nothing about it, wasn't any truth to the rumors, etc. So who knows in this case. Latino-Review, who is as spot-on as they come, did say it was just an offer. And I figured Gordon would be younger, but then again this does feel exactly like TV casting. It's random enough that it feels real. I'm sure we'll know more soon...

Ok, who's our ideal late 20s/early 30s Lieutenant Gordon casting? I agree that he's certainly not who I'd picture.

From everything I've read, this is a Jim Gordon and Gotham PD focused show along with some of the well known criminals as they come to power. Will have a young Bruce starting at 12 and series will end with him becoming Batman, like Smallville. Don't see Joker showing up in the series as most Joker origin stories outside of the Nolan-verse involve Batman accidentally dropping him into acid at ACME.

In fairness, like you said, it IS a different show now with the addition of Bruce. But if I would have seen or noticed your original thread, I definitely would have just added to that one...

SHUT UP, BABY, I KNOW IT.

Actually, it's just rare to catch something before someone as close to the show as yourself. Just doing a bit of innocent strutting.

Tweet just now from El Mayimbe, the guy who originally broke the Logue story...

FANBOY NATION! I have an update on the Donal Logue/Gotham story. I was wrong. My bad. He actually got offered DET HARVEY BULLOCK.

Makes sense now why Logue knew Gordon would be in his late '20s. Now, those in the know... who is Detective Harvey Bullock?

Further explanation...

UPDATE

When I originally got the tip from my source that Donal Logue got the offer, I made error and assumed it was for the Gordon part. I was wrong. My fault. I apologize. What Donal Logue actually got the offer was for Det. Harvey Bullock who is in his 40s and described as Gordon’s mentor in the pilot. Again, my apologies to the readers because sometimes, in the race to be first with a scoop, I didn’t bother to ask for which part which was pretty amateur and stupid on my part. As they say, assumption is the mother of all screwups as I just proved. Won’t happen again. So Donal Logue did in fact get an offer but for another part and not Gordon. Hope this clears things up.

In the cartoons, Bullock was a large jerkwad cop who hated batman and was incompetent. I don't think he was actually corrupt, and he did obey orders from Gordon without issue, but he was certainly antagonistic of Batman.

I think he might have also been the corrupt cop Two-Face shot in The Dark Knight, but I'm not so sure on that one.

Good to know.

It's been a little while since I watched the Nolan films, but I don't think he had Bullock specifically named in the movies.

Bullock is a detective that works for Gordon, he's a hothead and kind of a jerk, but he's not corrupt. Not sure I agree with the comment from the media guy that he would be Gordon's mentor and in his 40's as that would make Bullock in his 60's once Gordon is commissioner and he seems more about Gordon's age in the comics.

Bullock is your pretty stereotypical grizzled police veteran, trenchcoat and fedora type. Usually portrayed as rather jaded and kind of slobby and overweight, he's been crooked or at best kinda shady in pretty much every interpretation of the character.

I can see Logue in the part, but he's going to need to have a bit of an edge to him. Agreed that it seems odd to make him Gordon's mentor as they'd generally be around the same age if he wasn't even a bit younger than Gordon.

Bullock was a pretty well known character from the animated series. Like everyone else has said, he's a hothead, a loudmouth jerk, and he despises Batman... But he isn't corrupt. Definitely a stereotypical detective.

I always thought Bullock if anything, was a little younger than Gordon.

On the animated series he was not corrupt, but in several storylines from the comics he has been.

*24 year old spoiler alert*
He was also the inside man that was shot by the Joker early on in Burton's first Batman film

Interesting. I always liked his character. I havent read any comics or anything, but for some reason I thought that was a trait he always had in all formats. A *****, but a good cop.

Arrow is fantastic. I could totally see them doing the flashbacks with this show like they do with Arrow. Otherwise, I'm not sure I'm interested on waiting 1-2 seasons before batman appears.

The other thing about this though (and I made this comment on the Arrow thread) batman and Arrow are practically the same character. Not sure I want to devote time to watching this series when Arrow is already filling a batman like role and doing it very well. Especially now that they are bringing The Flash into it.

^That's why I hope they avoid a show that's anything like Arrow. DC needs to differentiate the two series. The direction being speculated sounds like a step in the right direction.

Having a bit of an edge has never been a problem for Logue. After his SOA character, he probably needs to soften it up a bit for this one.

Don't watch the show so I'll take your word for it, I remember him from some goofier characters he's played in the past.

Wow. Ben McKenzie cast as Gordon. Not against it by any means, but doesn't really pique my interest either. Never watched that cop show he was on, but for those who have, think he's a good fit? Haven't really seen him anything since The O.C. back in the day...

Earlier reports said a premiere date was unknown - said it could even be 2015 - but If they're already casting this thing with director & crew set, surely Fox is aiming to debut the show in the fall.

I like the casting. Southland was one of the more intense "documentary" style cop shows.

Here is a question - How is Fox able to use a WB character like Batman? Or is not owned in the same way that Sony owns Spiderman?

I have higher hopes for this series than I do the movie that's currently in production.

Fox has licensed the all the Batman characters from WB. Plus, WB has a pretty good relationship with Fox on the TV side.

A ton of new cast added/announced, including The Penguin, Alfred, and Barbara Kean. This thing is surely aiming for a 2014 debut...

Is Arrow any good? Seems like it gets really good reviews, and has a strong following on TexAgs.
