Comic Book talk rarely goes anywhere on here.

Black Adam - Vengeful dictator more powerful than Superman

The Court of Owls - Manipulation at its best

The current joker is the most evil I've ever seen

The penguin can be ruthless as well when written correctly

Sinestro - subjugation control and power through fear

Black Manta as written in Brightest Day/Current Aquaman - he doesn't care he'll just kill you

Dr. Doom
Most versatile villain, can take on just one hero sometimes, but can also be a threat to the whole Fantastic Four of Avengers.

I really liked Omega Red and Apocalypse from X-Men.

The shadowy villains in Frank Miller's Sin City world were also pretty good!

No love for Lex Luthor? When written wel, he's a complete badass who is just about smarter than anybody and truly believes he's doing humanity a favor with his every action.

Also, Dr. Doom for his arrogance alone.

My all-time favorite. Naturally, I'm very excited about the Avengers sequel.

From the comic book, not the ridiculously annoying cartoon version.

this is difficult because so many heroes/villains operate at different levels of power and sphere of control.

It's hard to compare villains from Daredevil's world with villains from the Green Lantern universe.

besides, is my favorite villain a villain I like or is my favorite villain the character best at being a bad guy?

The first is Magneto who on/off plays for the good guys. The second is hard to say since my experience is limited to the X-universe, GL universe, Spidey universe, and Cap's world. Maybe Norman Osbourne....

The Joker. From stealing a kid's report card to get him in trouble with his dad to shooting Barbara Gordon in the spine, and all points in between. Batman has some great villains beside the Joker, the rest of the DC universe, not so much (to me).

It's hard not to like how the Joker has been used lately and his unpredictability. A villian with a masterplan is a lot less scary than the guy who is just after chaos.

I also like villians who believe that what they are doing is actually good/right. Magneto, Mr. Freeze, The Govenor, etc.

i recently found that issue in a box of old stuff... still in the bag and in near mint condition

it's not worth anything, but i gave 12-year-old self a high five for being so fastidious

Borderlands 2 looked a little cartoony. Therefore, I'm throwing in Handsome Jack as the best villain ever.

Darkseid because he is the ultimate megalomaniac and The Joker because he's the perfect foil for Batman

The governor!

Thats a good one because there are guys in positions of power that are like that guy. A villain that could actually exist and be that messed up.

i lie not when i tell you that in the issue where Magneto rips out Wolverine's adamantium that I have a letter to the editor in the back.

i threw out most of my collection but kept that one as well as the x-men of my birth month.

Good thread. Also very tough choice.

The Court of Owls is one of the best new villains in recent memory. Really worked as a Batman villain both to him, directly, and for the rest of the Bat clan.

All-time DC, it's hard to top Joker. Zod is great but suffers from some inconsistent writing, I think (true of most things in Superman lore). Luthor is great when written properly, probably best done in Lex Luthor: Man of Steel.

In Marvel, Kingpin and Norman Osborn are both great. I love the reinvention of Osborn as a behind-the-scenes type.

I do have a villain that is very much unknown that I think people should check out. In terms of writing, definitely one of the best. Read the appearances of Kevin Smith's Onomatopoeia. Really cool.
