How long do you want to ignore this user?
i guess i liked this episode more than y'all (cue the "you're wrong and lying to yourself" people)

the angela/oscar thing was actually pretty entertaining. jim/darrel was kinda forced but i thought it was funny. to me, the biggest flaw with the pam story isn't the fact that they're using the camera guy, but that pam seemed completely out of line with her reaction to the drawing on her mural. it's believable that dwight would do something crazy like deface a man's truck, but the fact that pam was so into it was just weird

it's obvious where they'll go with the boom guy thing in that jim will realize he needs to find balance and blah blah blah, so as long as it's funny and somewhat believable i'm fine with it. but they need to fix jenna fischer's script, because she's shown she's got the acting chops if the material is good

Just to recap the past couple years (and many pages of threads)...

This show sucks without Steve carell.

Pam was ok with it because it was water-based and would wash off. Although, him attacking her was pretty predictable.

Did they just forget about the stuff between Erin and the other new guy?

Dude's been holding a boom mic for 9 years, apparently. Sounds like a winner.

For thise wondering where they've been, Mindy Kaling (Kelly) has her own show on FOX now (The Mindy Project) and BJ Novak (Ryan) is a producer for it. I've enjoyed it so far.

The official The Office storyline is that Kelly followed her doctor boyfriend to University of Miami (OH) and Ryan followed her.

30 Rock was a great show. It left you wanting more like a good show should. Most of the time you end up with The Office and HIMYM that get stretched out way too long.

I'm still trudging along with the Office just to see what happens at the end, not even really wanting to, but I gave up on 30 Rock. In its heyday it was great, but it was ridiculous and unfunny at the end of last season. Two episodes into this season I just threw in the towel and deleted it off the DVR.

Just got caught up. Those last 2 episodes were among the worst tv I've ever seen. It's like the writers have given up.

His biceps are probably made of steel And Pam strikes me as the girl who would just assume stay in now where Penn. in a dead end career.

Interesting parallel...
quote:
Like FNL, The Office is creating a rift between its central couple as part of its final season story arc.

The Office's conflict is nearly identical to FNL's: What if one of the spouses got a dream job opportunity in Philadelphia? In FNL, Tami Taylor is (somewhat implausibly) asked to be the dean of admissions at Braemore College; on The Office, Jim Halpert is (somewhat implausibly) asked to co-found a sports marketing company. Their more stuck-in-their-ways spouses — Coach and Pam, respectively — want to stay in the small towns where they built their families' lives.

There is one major difference, and it is why FNL nailed its ending and The Office is continuing to trip over itself on its way to the finish line. On FNL, the pressure for Eric to stay is symbolized by the opportunity to coach the Dillon Panthers again; on The Office, it's symbolized by a handsome boom-mike operator we've just met. FNL's fight was more complex. It was not a broad battle between right and wrong, but a subtle exploration of gender roles and the complicated balance between compromise and resentment that comes with adult relationships. The Office, on the other hand, has dumbed it down to just another potential love triangle. It's been nine years, and fans aren't buying it: Pam wouldn't cheat on Jim, Jim wouldn't care this much about work, a nosey documentary filmmaker wouldn’t fail to mention that their camera crew obviously filmed Cece's dance recital. (Sorry, that isn’t a Jim and Pam thing, but come on!)

Pretty sure I only laughed when Wallace found out Andy had been gone. Tonight made me hate Andy even more, and the Brian storyline is nothing short of predictable and stupid. I hope Jim beats his ass before the season is up.

I was glad Andy got busted. Also his character is fascinating how he gone from kinda lovable to a big dick since becoming the manager.

--Dwight's "Andy voice"
--Nellie telling Clark it was time for a training bra
--Chinese lady putting two index fingers together

Were good.

Honestly, I thought every scene not involving the Jim/Pam stuff was greatness.

I love Clark Duke. Telling Andy they got Kathy Ireland as the spokeswoman and did "tasteful" nude billboards of her was great.

I love the office and have watched every episode. I'm watching until the end and I am not complaining, although it has gotten harder.

However, I was watching Last Man standing the other day and absolutely laughed out loud the whole episode. I've laughed at that show a whole lot and it's now one of my favorites, but what I really like about the show is that there isn't a story arc. Each episode stands on its own and doesn't have to be tied to another. I'm glad it doesn't do that because then there's no loose ends to tie when the show ends. Why can't comedies be exactly that, funny episodes with no arc through the series? The Office's need to have some grand be all, end all finale is actually killing it.

Agree with everyone on Jim/Pam. Used to be the best story line of the show, then they squeezed every bit of life out of it.

Also, Clark is absolute greatness.

It's called CBS.

Story arcs in comedies can be done right (see Parks and Rec).

i liked this episode

glad to finally see the payoff of erin booting andy. her character has been one of the more memorable ones in the last few seasons and andy has become 100% completely unlikeable, so it was nice to see him finally get his (with presumably more to come next week)

one surprising thing that kinda snuck up on me is that the writers have actually made nelly a little more likeable too. when she first came on in that florida arc, i could not STAND anything she did on screen, but now she's really got a "one of the gang" feel

i think i'm finding more enjoyment out of this season by completely losing any urge to compare it to the golden seasons of the office (2-4, IMO). this is entertaining enough in its own right, and i hope it finishes strong

What is surprising to me about seeing the boom and camera guys is that I always viewed the show as a mockumentary. It was like being a fly on the wall, not really a show about a show.

Coming out and saying it was a show all along opens up tons of plot holes over the years.

Most recently, is Angela's gay husband. Sneaking around pretending to be straight while a camera crew follows you around is ridiculous. Having your gay lover and token blonde wife running around talking about your sexuality for 2 seasons is stupid.

Also, how many years did Jim and Pam flirt behind Roy's back? Did Roy never watch the show?

They are filming for a documentary that hasn't been released yet. Not a reality show.

A 9 year documentary? Who funds something like that? Another reason that they should have left the people behind the camera out off the plot.

You must have missed Micheal's last episode. He asked them if they were ever going to air the show. Also, have you missed all of the side-interviews that they have always done? Did you think they were talking to no one?
TexasAggie_02
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Point is, I took it as an artistic style that felt kind of natural. It was like they were talking to YOU. Now it had become part of the plot and feels unnatural and ridiculous once you break it down. Now you have to accept that it's either a reality show and they are all famous, or it's a 9 year long documentary that has never aired, and has no known source if funding.

It's clunky for sure, but are you really suddenly concerned about who is funding this thing?
