I loved that scene in Sue Ellen's office where J.R. and Cliff Barnes are sniping at each other. A very "Grumpy Old Men" moment, showing that old family hatred never dies.

I just caught up and find myself enjoying it for what is is. A good old fashioned guilty pleasure soap with a little nostalgia thrown in.

Best line so far is J.R. telling Ann that bullets “don’t seem to work on him”

ETA: Apparently it's already been picked up for a 15 episode season 2

its been picked up for season 2.

as a diehard fan of the original (at least up until the dream starts)...i think they've done a pretty good job with the show so far. it started with getting people interested in the first 2 shows, then had a very strong 3rd show and sustained in the 4th. the show feels like its starting to come together a bit.

my expectations were in the gutter for this reboot but so far if you take it for what it is (and thats not high quality writing/acting but instead soapy drama) then it gets a solid B so far.

Looks like JR bowed out last night. It was symbolic when he put his hat on his son. It looks like he did all of this to keep John Ross' legal exposure to a minimum. He also said his return depends on his boy and how he handles himself.

It is tough to not actively want JR to make it because he was always the most interesting character. For this show to make it Ewing Oil has to come back. There is no other way to make it interesting. The Christopher character is boring IMO.

JR ain't gone. Think he's supposed to be in every episode this season.

Larry Hagman is the only reason I am watching.

I actually thought Christopher stepped up and showed that he could play the game as well in the latest episode. I think he will be much more interesting and a force to be reckoned with.

IMO, he has watched his father be run over by JR all ofhis life, and is tired of it and not letting it happen to him. He will be someone trying to do the "right thing" but using suspect methods to fight fire with fire.

And I also think JR will be back, his trip is probably setting up some other big twist coming up...

Really tired of the " oil is evil" from Christopher.

I get the feeling it's more about renewable energy being the future and thus more lucrative in the long run. Not so much oil is evil. It's more about moving Ewing Oil into the future much like Exxon, Cheveron, etc are currently doing.

Decent ep tonight. Cant wait to see how John Ross deals with this new obstacle and what he may face if he cant deliver the oil to those shifty folk. Rebecca's being knocked up is predictable but juicy soap opera fare.

Cheap thrills or not, this show has gotten pretty good and entertaining to watch.

I don't know about that statement Orlando. I get that JR wants his son to get tough and learn but the wholde deal could fall through and they would lose EVERYTHING. There are two things JR loves and that is Ewing Oil and his son and his inactions have placed both in jeopardy. Of course there is video evidence that he did not throw that girl off the balcony and of course the people responsible will be found out, thrown in jail and the loan will be null and they get to keep everything. I get where this is going. But how does JR know that while running around chasing after Cliff Barnes?

It is getting sloppy. Given, Larry Hagman has cancer and can't work like the others. But man they are getting awfully loose with the script. There is drama and then there is ignoring everything that JR stood for in the original run. He loved his son and he loved Ewing Oil. Yes, he hated Cliff Barnes but he would not have thrown the other two out the window to get at the other. JR is as aware as anyone of the expected delivery of that oil to his investors. And him saying that trust would not hold up in court does not hold water. That takes time. Their delivery schedule for the oil would be well past due at that point and they would be in foreclosure.

The writers need to tighten it up a little.

i certainly agree the writing needs work. they also need to work on the continuity and flow from the old episode.

it really doesn't mesh that JR and John Ross would feud at all.

it doesn't mesh that Sue Ellen and John Ross have a strained relationship.

it doesn't mesh that 10% of the world's oil reserves are apparently under Southfork.

finally it certainly doesn't mesh or flow from the old episode that Cliff Barnes picked up that thug dude from the streets of Pakistan 30 yrs ago and treated him like his son. (if you remember the old series 30 yrs ago Cliff Barnes was a complete broken loser)

still though, i like the cheap thrill and entertainment.

This show used to be at its best when the Ewings came together. I think it was done right.

SPOILER:

I knew Rebecca and Tommy weren't bro and sis.

You're not alone. I literally can't see anything else when she's on screen. It might as well have a giant neon sign pointing at it.
