How many double crosses are going on right now?!

ya, i think aside from the "unrealistic amount of oil under SF" the other thing this show needs to kinda get under control is the double crossing. the old series had maybe 2 going on at one time. this one already has like 4 (and possibly like 6).

the show needs to be careful with going overboard with that many storylines/doublecrosses.

Hagman was excellent.

Best thing going on the show. Fun, but somebody else better become interesting or this won't hold my attention for long. Maybe that Del Sol "daughter" or something like that.

Couldn't get through the first episode.

No oil man (Bobby) who is sitting on 1MMMBO (right) is gonna forgo drilling because alternatives are "the future".

And fracking's gonna ruin Southfork? Please.

And that opening drilling scene?

Terrible.

This show is Varsity Blues terrible/delicious! I'll watch to get a laugh as to how they are portraying Texans to the outside world. As noted above, there were at least 6 WTF that makes no sense plot points/scenes in the pilot episode (the most egregious being the Cowboys Stadium scene). From a wedding ruined bc of one email (but no subsequent telephone convos) to Larry Hagman claiming he is Succ Trustee under a Will his son is trying to overturn, the plot is filled w holes. It's more of a soap opera than an AMC/HBO drama, and you should adjust your expectations accordingly.

The original show was nothing but a soap opera, and that's all we should expect from this one. That being said, I'll give this season a shot.

the Varsity Blues comparison is pretty good. but thats what level of expectations you should have.

not great TV like Sopranos, Mad Men, NYPD Blue by any means. just guilty pleasure.

I wish it had been as comically bad as Varsity Blues.

It is if you go in w right mindset. "I wouldn't put all my oil in one barrel, now would I?" sounds an awful lot like "I don't want your life!" to me.

Not to mention: (slow drawl) Betting against J.R. Ewing and his son is like betting against the Dallas Corboys................unpatriotic.

Cowboy Stadium scene should've gotten someone fired. That was so bad.

It does seem like a huge hole that they would put that much oil under Southfork. Why not something more reasonable?
I know the ranch was 100,000 acres, but that's still a lot of oil.

And shouldn't the Ewings be a lot richer than they are? Seems like everyone's trying to find financing from someone else.

And you're telling me that there was just no way to get Larry Hagman back on television over the last decade? Really?

get over it. whether you like it or not a lot of people in Texas when push comes to shove support TU athletics.

i thought episode 3 was actually better than the first 2.

Love the show but don't see why they had Bobby's wife tell Bobby that she thought JR gave John Ross the journal because she saw JR in that storage room. JRs story was that John Ross stole it from his own room.
I mean she was right, but for the wrong reasons, IMO.
I didn't see Christopher's wife in a tu shirt, will have to watch again.

There's a facebook page for the new Dallas, and the timeline is from JR's point of view. They have filled in the timeline all the way back to 1978, with comments, photos, and clips from the original show, as well as fictional content to fill in the gap from when the first Dallas ended.

As part of the backstory, Christopher received a full ride to tu and graduated with honors. So it would make sense that the wife is wearing Horn gear.

On a related note, Elena went to Tech on a full ride, and John Ross also went to Tech, but dropped out.

this show just sucks me in and I don't know why. Part "good ole days", part seeing Dallas on tv, a little "soap opery".

JR is still a great character.

Uncle Chris Barnes is creepy as heck.. He's linked to Rebecca Sutter, Chris's Wife, somehow..

I did have a problem suspending belief about the oil under Southfork though. I am no geologist and I have no idea how big Southfork is supposed to be, but wouldn't it be highly unlikely that 2 billion barrels of oil would be underground there without someone already knowing about it? That's a lot of oil (about 10% of all the proven reserves in the US today). That would fetch about $160B - $180B on the open market at today's prices.

Yes, a field this huge would have been discovered maybe 100 years ago.

They knew it was there. In the first run of the show JR watned to drill for it but his daddy stopped him.

3rd episode was much better. I think the thing that made it better was JR slapping his son and saying learn from me. It kept John Ross' mouth shut and I think that made it more enjoyable. The actor that plays John Ross is really the only character that bugs me. Christopher seems exactly like how Bobby would have raised him.

Jesse Metcalf is actually doing a pretty good job with the "Christopher" role. If the new show had not come along and us older viewers were asked how he probably turned out...the way Metcalf is portraying him would probably be pretty close.

This show is my guilty pleasure for the summer.

The original was before my time, but my grandmother was a serious devotee. I remember that when Dallas came on, everything else stopped.

In the original show it was mentioned several times that bobby had been a QB at tu.

I can't believe how little things like seeing "Ken Kercheval" in the opening credits make me happy. My FIRST thought was, "oh Cliff Barnes, you know you can't beat ole JR"

I just love seeing Patrick Duffy and Hagman together again. Duffy HAS aged well.

Chrisopher's wife's character is pretty milquetoast, as evidenced by the fact I can't remember her name. The actress playing Elena needs to cut back on the Botox- she can't register any emotion with her frozen forehead.

Never watched the original, but the wife likes it so we're watching.

Not a big fan but it's tolerable enough. They are even marketing it as a guilty pleasure...they know what they have.

It was my grandmother's favorite too, and I watched the reruns with her on TNN when I was a kid. I know she wouldn't miss an episode of this new series if she was still around.

I saw someone reference the drama in comparison to Breaking Bad and Mad Man, come on people. It's a soap opera, always has been. Take it for what it is and don't make it something that it's not. Plus, enjoy JR Ewing's return as one of tv's greatest villains.
