So I took a week off for a "trial retirement"

I was going stir crazy by Thursday/Friday. I can only read so much and watch so much TV.

Good news was the house was sparkling, the yard perfect and my wife enjoyed home cooked meals for lunch and dinner every day. She liked that - ALOT.

But man - I have got to find more to do outside the house to make this work. Less than a year to go before i pull this trigger. I know I could do more at church related stuff. Also thought about volunteering at local animal shelters to play with the dogs.

Get some land. Maintain it. You will have plenty to do.

Teach idiot kids in your community. Share your knowledge.

Get a hobby building things. Big things like a boat or a cabin or a car.

Get a pilots license or some other interesting certification.

Find a community sevice project that really needs competency involved.

Travel. The national is huge. The world is huge.

Two years in, my retirement experience has been just the opposite. I've divested hobbies, including a 1968 Mustang and a Boston Whaler sold on TexAgs Classifieds, to make time for other hobbies. I also didn't anticipate dealing with cancer and three parents/in-laws with dementia.

Start a second career being a pimp. They say pimpin ain't easy. But, if you are loaded like you say you are, then you won't have to care about the money and you can just care about the girls. You may have to slap a ho every now and then, but it will be outa love, not greed.

First "real" (paid taxes and SS) job at 14 years old. Worked until 30April2026.

Retired at 62 and 1 month to 42ac in Limestone County with chickens, bees, a 1ac garden, green house, a sawmill, wood shop, metal shop, a 1951 Jeep to restore, 2 dachshunds, and a wife.

Not bored at all. All in the planning.

Thanks, but she's head of nursing education at her hospital system and is up for a Director position. She's doing really well, which is another reason I don't mind becoming a house husband.

Not really- the house husband part takes up 2-3 hours a day. It's the other 16 hours I need to fill up.

I retired at 50… I volunteer and more for a Church Pantry. Hubs was afraid he'd be bored if he retired…he's figured out quite the opposite! We're both as busy or lazy as we want to be. Do it!

My "retirement" Day is August 9th. I've spent 19 years as an RN exclusively in the ER.

I put retirement in quotes because backing off from full time and going "PRN". 5-6 shifts a month.

I have a house, pool and a 70s muscle car that takes all my time and money.

Travelling to Europe in September and taking the granddaughter to Disney in October.

I am soooooo ready.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

I retired two years ago and at first I was pretty bored for the first few months. When you are used to doing so many things all the time, its hard to adjust to the new pace. But before you know it, you will fill up your time and wonder how you were able to get anything done while you were working.

I don't buy into the "retire to something not from something" advice. Once you retire you will have plenty of time to figure it out.

I don't understand how someone who is "loaded" can be bored in retirement. I can't even engage in this conversation because I'm so confused by the premise. Maybe it's a trick question. I can think of tons of stuff I enjoy to do, especially if money isn't a concern.
