The place right next to the old Wings n More on Texas Ave is the de facto restaurant graveyard. The place there now is called Casadores (I actually ate there tonight - I like the food). They have been there for a year and might actually do ok, there seems to always be people there.

So, how many of the dead have you eaten at? I've been there when it was:

Snuffers
Bucky Richardson's Sports Bar
El Arroyo

There was a Hong Kong place for about a month, but I never went there. What else did it used to be called?

By the way, just to show your age, how many people remember Bullwinkle's?

It used to be called the Clay Oven (Indian Food). I know we have a lot of international grad students, but who in the hell thought that would work there?

Clay Oven was on the land that is now occupied by the Petco shopping center.

Bullwinkle's was awesome. Shame it closed.

I thought Bullwinkles was fun too. When did it close? Damn I'm old.

Bullwinkle's was the place to go if you wanted to drink underage. We were hanging out there before they ever expanded into the big karoke room with the stands.

Wasn't there a Bombay Bicycle Club back there too?

The Snuffers/El Arroyo/etc. restaurant building must be haunted. I think there were 5 restaurants there in the 5 years I spent in Aggieland. Everything around it does fine, but that building is death to any entrepreneur.

Bombay Bicycle was where Denny's is...either there or where OTB is.

It was Mama's Pizza for a time...they had the best breadsticks.

It was also Porky's Hamburgers for less than a month. That place went out fast.

It was also a Chinese Buffet.

Bombay Bicycle Club was where Denny's is now...near Texas Avenue and University. There was a heinous murder there beofre it was the BBC.

EDIT: The name of the place when the murder occurred was Julie's.

And Bucky Richardson's was never at the cursed location. It was at 500 Texas Avenue in Bryan, where the old Tom Light Chevrolet and Big Dogs was.

As said by CSAF, Bucky Richardson's was not in the "cursed" location next to the wings n more in eastgate. Neither was Clay Oven or Bullwinkles. Both of those were further down Texas Ave.

I remember the "cursed" location being both Snuffes, El Arroyo, and a chinese buffet while I was at A&M.

I loved Bullwinkles, but wasnt it where Margarita Rocks is now?
We used to always go and play NTN when we would go up to visit my sister. I think I was in 8th grade.

Bucky's was in deep Bryan... was Big Dog's first.

Mama's Pizza was in Culpepper Plaza on the end that was next to Dominik.

It later became Bullwinkle's but may have been something else in between.

Mama's was next door to 2 day Video. I bounced my 1st check there.

Also places that exist only in memory and in my clogged arteries, that I loved...

Flyin' Tomato (all 3 of my fish camps would meet there)
Fort Shiloh

and the legend...Tom's BBQ (how could anyone have mismanaged that place...such a shame)

Mama's was there when I was in hs. Snuffers and El Arroyo failed due to very poor execution of decent concepts.

I don't think it's a doomed property. It's a great location... it's just the dumbasses that think location is quite literally everything. They should've invested more in making it 'their place'. No one has.

RIP - Fort Shiloh

The worst part about El Arroyo was that when it was in Bryan on South College where it first opened, it kicked ass and was always packed. Then perhaps they thought that moving it to Texas Ave would really bring in the business and pare down the crowd to only college kids. When it was in Bryan, it was both blue collar and and white frat kid. After they moved, it tanked. I went and ate there once or twice on Texas Ave, but it was not even close to when it as on South College with that ugly ass boat in the parking lot.

As a side note, I was damn dissappointed when the Feed Barn in Bryan closed not so long ago. You could get a steak meal for like 5 dollars. Sure, they had picnic tables in lieu of real ones, but it was good. I went there with my family for my undergrad graduation dinner. It was the last time

Anybody remember Pasghettis on Texas Ave where Two Day rental was? Took forever to get in there.

Pasghetti's was at the corner of Texas and SW Pkwy...was also Royer's for a while (and I believe originally Pelican's Landing or Wharf???)

La Taq became Rosalie's, and was one of my favorites until Costas decided to "do something different."

I agree with Fort Shiloh. That was the place for chicken fried steak in college station back in the 1980's.

I loved el Arroyo. Food sucked, but there were some hottie waitresses. Plus my roommate worked the so i could sit there and pour my own margaritas. That always helps.

Bullwinkles wednesday night! Man those were some fun days.

the grapevine clossed down quite a while ago. however, i drove by their the other day and there were some people out doing landscaping work, so i don't know if that meant the place just got too rough looking or mayhaps something is coming in there soon???

Man... Bucky's, Bullwinkle's, Big Dog's... you guys went way back! Ft. Shiloh was great as was Two Pesos and the Flying Tomato.

Is Lane's still there? I was craving their chicken fingers today. What about Pepe's? That was the cheapest Mexican food in the USA.

Two Pesos? You are kidding, right? I ate the once, adn told myself I would never go back.

As to the Flying Tomato...proof ositive that an idiot can ruin a good thing by opening his mouth. Back in the day, it was a Corps hangout and did the business. Then one day, the owner mentioned to someone that "he hated the Corps." Well, the CT's and BQ's left, and the place soon died. Another great example of brillian marketing. You're Fired!

The biggest failure of all....Tom's BBQ; too bad many of you never tasted their BBQ when it was at its best....there was none better anywhere, period. BBQ in B/CS is average at best.

I also lament the passing "The Texan".

Royers was damn good in its short run. Porkys burgers in the cursed building was decent, but lasted less then a month.

I still will never understand how snuffers didnt take in a college town, glad I live close to one in Dallas try to clog my arteries with cheese fries at least once a month.
