When did people stop going to Northgate for lunch?

I was on campus Monday for the first time in many years. Went to the Dixie Chicken for a Deathburger. Good news is the line was short. Bad news is that the place was essentially empty. Worse news is that two sandwiches, two teas, and Tijuana Fries was over $40. Duddley's used to have really good and cheap lunch specials. They don't even open for lunch. Northgate used to be popular for lunch. Now it is dead. When did this happen?

The best thing about the start of the semester used to be the little coupon books. Burger and fries for like $3.99 at the Chicken.

I would often go for lunch, accidentally get housed, and make it home by midnight.

I remember vividly when the chicken jacked up their prices. Pretty much when the daughters took over there was an overnight 60% increase. 2008ish? I never recovered from it financially.

I used to get two bean and cheese soft tacos, chips/salsa, and a coke at Duddley's, and it was something like $4. This was late 90s/early 2000s.

RIP to the $5 Cowboy's Choice at Fitzwilly's. A burger, beer, and fries was the perfect Friday lunch.

I am sure it is inflation. As you say prices are through the roof so people look elsewhere. The newer kids don't have any connection with older places like duddley's and the Chicken. They were both around when I was at CS in the 90s.

Once people leave, they don't come back. Never screw with your customer base.

TexAgs is the same way. I started coming here in 1999 and have been here for 25 years. The newer Ags would prefer discord or reddit or something else. As it is this board is full of 40+ people. In some decades, if it still exists, it will be 60+ with half the posters as the other half would be dead.

I, too, remember getting priced out of the chicken in 2008

Cowpie and fries at the Cow Hop was $2.15 in the early 80's. I lived on that.

You must have been one of the rich guys that got cheese on it. As I recall it was $1.99!

You would think that with the bank they make at the Dixie Chicken they could afford to rebuild Chicken Oil. That place was popular with the locals, but it has been closed so long I doubt they would return too.

Makes me wonder if the Chicken isn't as lucrative as it used to be. It seems to me that with property taxes being what they are at Northgate they would be trying to maximize foot traffic.

I forgot about the Double Dave's with the patio on Northgate buffet. Stuff your backpack with pepperoni rolls and take it back to crocker for dinner and lunch the next few days.

You must have been the guy who got the fountain drink with it. Cow pie and fries, no cheese and only water was $1.25 through the late 80's.

I had a classmate who managed a Double Dave's. One day one of my other classmates asked him what happened to people who stole from the buffet. Manager classmate replied, "You can't really steal from the buffet because it's all you can eat". Other classmate then tells the story of his roommate and roommate's girlfriend who would fill their backpacks with food from the buffet before leaving. I don't remember the rest of the story, but I thought doing that was kind of dewshee
