Now it looks like a third world country. Not sure if renovations ever actually happened. I think it's been completely bulldozed now.

Definitely forgot about this one. Went there on a 4-H trip in the early 80s!

Didn't they have critters also? Gosh, it's been 40 years.

RIP old school Schlitterbahn
Any time something tropical was supposed to move in was the best time to go. No lightning so stuff stays open, but also no tourists and people from San Antonio so shorter lines and tube chutes don't get clogged up so fast

Anyone know what the water park just south of Austin / right off of I-35 north was called? The ruins of that place have been there for decades unless the land was finally developed.

It's over ran with land manatees. They seriously need to up their pricing to weed out the riff raff.

I checked the other day out of curiosity and it's like $50 a day now to get in, when it was around $10 when I was a kid. Of course we always got the season pass for Christmas which if you got it early enough was around $50.

Pretty sure Schlitterbahn and Noah's Ark are bigger.

Action Park, Sussex County NJ. Also known as Traction Park.

Was a regular there in the 80's (before safety was invented).

Since summers are far shorter in the northeast, the place was frequently packed and people (us included) went nuts. And there was no way a bunch of 16 year old 'life guards' were going to watch and control teenage NJ animals. People getting carried out or bleeding was a regular sight. Several deaths every summer.

Good times.

Free if you knew people who worked there, or at least was back in the 1990s.

If you're ever in Florida, Weeki Wachee Springs is still around and pretty fun. Last time I was there I went swimming in the springs and a bunch of manatees just swam up to hang out. It was a really cool experience. They also have a vintage Mold-A-Rama souvenir machine.

https://weekiwachee.com/

Speaking of Mold-A-Rama, we were just at the San Antonio Zoo last week and they still have a few of these machines. My daughter made some about 5 years ago on another trip there. They have a QR code you can scan that takes you to their website. Not many locations left- mostly in the Midwest and this one in San Antonio. I didn't see the Florida location you spoke of listed, so I wonder if it's still running. Here's the link:

I was absolutely cussed out by Jeff Henry at Schlitterbahn in the mid 80's, heard every word I knew and maybe couple more.

I did deserve it though.

There are two different brands, Mold-A-Rama and Mold-O-Matic. They are essentially the same thing and if they weren't labeled, the average person wouldn't be able to tell them apart. The one in Weeki Wachee is a Mold-O-Matic.

Third Man Records in Detroit and Nashville also have custom ones they call Wax-O-Matic
(not my pic)

Spent many of summer's in that place. Believe it or not, there was another one just inside what is now Loop 250 across from what is now HEB ( I think ). Can't remember the name, was only there a few times when I was really really young. Anyone on here born after 1980 won't know what I'm talking about.

Seven Seas in Arlington also had a Killer whale! Nootka was known to be pretty aggressive and bite trainers. One story goes that in an attempt to show she was not dangerous a trainer put his head inside her mouth and she promptly clamped down on his neck. The trainer survived and the trick was not attempted again.

Seven Seas eventually closed because it was to expensive to operate. Turns out not having an endless supply of seawater nearby and having to winterize exhibits is pretty costly

I can't believe the ruins of games people play still exists today. 30 years of developers saying, nope, not plopping a building right there!

Spent many days there in the 90s.

That's where I remember the arcade. It had a bunch of glass windows all across the front and a unique multi level staircase going up to the front.

How can you see that as mocking, to the point you add a little thumbs down emoticon? It's a funny comment given there IS a documentary about it, but not personally mocking you - I don't get that reaction at all.

You can't go through life that emotionally fragile.

(maybe it was a joke reply? Is there history I missed?)

Did I take it as mocking? Yes, I took it as a sarcastic response as if everyone should know this information, hence my initial reply. I did not see the post on the first page about Action Park. I added my post to this thread because the unlikelihood of some (based on geography), if any, posters having been to Action Park. I was merely stating some of my personal experiences as a teen who frequented that park, not just stating that Action Park exists and it had its issues. And there may be some who do not know about it, again, based on geography?

As for another pretty big thread on Action Park, I don't recall that so forgive me if I repeated any information.

I did a lot of field surveys on the old Wildlife Park site before it was developed, this was back around 06-07. At the time there were still some of the old structures remaining (animal enclosures, and the concrete canal for the old river raft tour)

I need to look at current aerials to see if there is anything still there after all of the warehouses and flood storage ponds were built.
