21%! May be time to shop around. The last time I did, USAA said I couldn't go back to them. A few years later, they begged.

Edit: Who ya got? I'm in Hurricane Alley……

theyve been the most expensive option for quite some time. Place is an absolute rip off, but their customer service is really good.

We actually left them 2 years ago. I actually think their customer service has gone to hell in the last few years.

I told the USAA guy what competitors were quoting me and he's like "oh, yeah, you should switch". I appreciated that, but, see ya. Car insurance rate was also DOUBLE what progressive offered.

I dont know anything about insurance, but i feel like USAA has been expanding coverage to more and more people- they advertise that if you know a veteran you can join. I also think active duty and veterans are high risk people to insure.

Where as progressive tells deadbeats that other agencies have lower rates for them so they dont dilute the risk pool.

Once again, I dont know **** about this, but as a middle aged man I felt like people needed to hear what I think.

No use for USAA. Shafted me on diminished claim after USAA insured rear-ended my car causing $13,000+ repair costs. I took a $5000 hit on my trade-in a few weeks after repairs. (Another dealer also told me $5000.). I made a strong case in writing. USAA sent me a check for $1146. I should have paid a lawyer to write a letter.

USAA is utter garbage. I've gotten home quotes from them that are literally triple what I currently pay, and their reputation for being helpful and honoring claims has vanished. I would switch to anyone else and never look back.

1. Their customer service hasn't been really good for about 10 years.

2. Even if it was, good customer service is not worth the premium they are charging for their policies.

Bothers me with their constant commercials about who can be a member. If you have USAA, you already know how you got USAA. If you don't have USAA, chances are pretty freaking high you aint' gonna get USAA.

Our premium jumped but a big part of that was they appraised our home for rebuild at the tax value with our appraisal district. How the value of land our home is on is in any way shape or form related to my deductible next time I need a new roof doesn't make any sense. I adjusted the value and my premiums are now lower than last years. You have to do this every couple of years.

An agent shopped around for me and pointed me to SageSure. They didn't go up too terribly bad this year. I have no idea what a claim would be like, but maybe worth a quote at least.

Don't live in hurricane alley but we just switched from Farmers to Liberty Mutual and for the same coverage knocked about 1000 off of home and had just bought a new vehicle where farmers was going to increase premiums by 600 (every 6 months) Liberty was the same as what i was paying plus the rate is locked in for a year.

I have a very nice 4,300 square foot house with a pool and massive garage, and I just switched to State Farm for a premium of $3,550 for the next year, 1% deductible, good coverage. What kind of house do you have that you can't find something less than $9,900 a year? If you're in a $2.5 million house, then that makes perfect sense and you should stop complaining. But if you live in a house similar to or ****tier than mine, you're being robbed blind, and you obviously haven't shopped around.

My usaaa homeowners went up about 35%. It looks like they raised some of the values as part of it. I haven't bothered shopping around much. My friend that is an independent agent has been telling me about how much everyone is going up and how hard it is to find, good lower cost coverage.

Insurance across the board has gotten insane. Its no wonder that so many people are driving without insurance these days.

I shop around every two years. Home and auto insurance is not some specialty product that you need to buy based on relationships and brand loyalty. If you do that, you will basically be setting money on fire. You get penalized for staying with the same company, even if you make no claims. Years ago I used Lear Insurance for several years in a row. After getting the call from Brian Massey every year that "we've shopped you around to over 200 different insurance companies and you're still getting the best deal out there herp derp!" I started to suspect it was bull**** and it absolutely is.

Agreed 100%
We actually just recently went back to Allstate after making the block a few times. Have gone through brokers and Allstate was somehow way cheaper for bundling home, auto, & umbrella. Have to waste the time and shop it around every year it seems like.

That's what it is. It isn't the cost of the insurance, it's the inflation on the replacement costs.

I left Liberty Mutual once for Geico when they decided to jack up rates. After two years, Geico was going to jack up rates, so I was shopping around again and got a quote from Liberty Mutual, and it was LOWER than than what I paid when I was with Liberty Mutual three years earlier, which is nonsensical but I signed back up. That lasted two years, then went to Progressive, now moving to State Farm after two years.

Basically all of these companies seem to give great deals to new customers and then try to bankrupt you after about two years, so you just have to become a new customer again every two years. If I had stayed with the same company, at the speed they were increasing rates, I'd probably be paying $15,000 a year for insurance by now.

State Farm just quoted me more than that for a 2200 sq ft home, no pool, and just standard 2 car garage.
