“Fahrenheit 9/11” filmmaker Michael Moore called the opening weekend numbers for his documentary “mind-boggling” and credited his political opponents for boosting ticket sales.

“They’re all getting a Christmas card from me this year,” said Moore, who greeted filmgoers at a downtown Manhattan theater on Sunday.

The film, an indictment of President Bush’s leadership and his decision to go to war in Iraq following the 2001 terrorist attacks, took in $21.8 million in 868 theaters in its first three days of release.

It's still a documentary.

No matter how bad those movies sucked, they'll never live down the fact that they got smoked by a documentary. All the other movies will raz them mercilessly.

So I guess DG88 also considers "This is Spinal Tap" as a documentary???

I consider Moore's movies documentaries. As do most definitions of the word "documentary", as it pertains to film.

I find it mindboggling that people are willing to pay to see his drivel.

That may be the case, but just about everyone that wanted to see this film did. Expect a drop off with Spidey 2 coming out, and a strong showing by Dodgeball. lol.

Also, don't be surprised when you see a lot of information that comes out refuting what M&M claimed in his movie...which again is a documentary only in name...Best in Show was a better documentary.

I might pay to see it. I don't know if I can wait for someone put up a website skewering it, like I did for Bowling.

Oh you can probably bet on a DVD release in October/November.

moore's crap takes facts and twists them how he see's fit to make Bush look evil. Nothing factual or objective about that. They should have put that crap under complete and utter nonsense type fiction.

that should be interesting. according to reports, moore employed many fact checkers and has basically preemptively threatened legal action if anyone claims libel inaccurately. I haven't seen it and don't know if it is a bunch of lies, but I'm sure this will all blow up even more and make both sides look like asses.

I can say with complete sincerity that I was not one of the morons who supported this film over the weekend, and with complete confidence tell all that I will not see it.

Shrek II sounds like a better deal.

Moore's mind is easily boggled.

This film has gotten more hype and attention than any other this year, it is hardly surprising that it had a strong opening weekend. Hell, I can't stand Michael Moore or what his film is about but I have to admit at least some curiosity after months of non stop publicity and hype. I still won't go to see it but that is more a function of the fact that with a 9 month old son and "date nights" being a premium there is no way in hell I would waste one on this garbage, I also have a real moral quandry about supporting anything that is being distributed by Hezbollah in the Middle East. There is a definite audience of hard core liberals that would probably buy 5 tickets a piece just so it gets even more run. I wouldn't be surprised to see it run for 6 months in San Francisco.

Most people just want to see what all the fuss is about though. If you hype any film this much in the mainstream press it is going to get people wanting to see it.

There have been some news reports that some of his wealthy, Hollywood backers have bought tickets in bulk to run up the nubmers. I wish there was a way to tally actual attendance to see if there was a gap.

Maybe he should have used those "fact checkers" when looking at names for his political ad, since that has gotten him in hot water.

Moore is a master of twisted words, and double talk, convincing simple minded sheep that what he says must be true.

It is sad that Americans as a whole are too ignorant, and in a lot of cases too stupid to be able to discern fiction from reality...regardless of political leanings.

Partisan politics aside, calling this a documentary is nonsense. This movie should not be included in that class. Admit it.

Well, this is probably the ONE thing MM & I agree on. I find the success of his "documentary" mindboggling as well.

He's getting all the free advertisement he needs from the conservative talk radio circuit.

I am sure he will be real torn up about your backlash when he is counting his tens of millions of dollars he will make from this film and polishing his second Oscar for Best Documentary Feature.

I was going to say rubbing his Oscar, but I thought polishing had a better ring to it.

This is a pretty good documentary. You will get out of it what you want. I went in with an open mind and really enjoyed it. It is certainly very critical of Bush, but I felt the crux of the material took on ALL the politicians, and all WAR.
Only one congressperson has a child serving in the military in the middle-east. Moore also looks at how the military is mainly (all respect to the dear Aggie corps) made up of young adults that have NO other options in life. It will disgust you to watch as two Marine recruiters scour the malls in Detroit looking for their next recruit. However, the way they talk about their recruits it shows how they treat them more like prey, another sucker to meet their quotas.
All in all, a good documentary. I always respect those who make people consider things a different way. The right has Limbaugh, the left Moore. I listen to them both, I just happen to see things Moore's way more frequently.
Also, I am a bit skeptical of anyone (like my roommate) that starts claiming they are "angry" after watching a documentary. It should be used as an input, not as a decision maker.

I saw the movie in a packed AMC theater in Houston in the middle of the afternoon on Friday. As I left there was another huge line waiting for the next showing. The film was eye opening. There was laughter and crying and a standing ovation at its conclusion. Those of you who bash the film without having seen it have no credibility.

None of his movies are documetaries, he uses editing to present facts the way he wants them seen. This is making a movie not presenting the facts without prejudice. Stop calling it a documetary becasue it's not.
