Wife is trying to find us a big sectional couch and I don't want to drop 10k while my kids are still young and will mess it up. Found one at Ashely that looks nice. Just don't want to go through this exercise again in 24 months because the Ashley one is a POS. Any experience with their couches?

I think the materials are more important than the brand. You don't want bonded leather, thats the stuff that the super thin leather surface will fall off in a few years and you'll just have nasty looking vinyl left.

I bought their stuff a long time ago. Bad experience. They quality wasn't great and the delivery was all jacked up. They ended up delivering it at like 10 or 11 o'clock at night and asked to use my dolly to unload it.

You're buying on price, and probably a price significantly cheaper than a quality piece of furniture. I think when you look at it that way you answer your question. That sort of stuff can easily break structurally in under 2 years and the materials are going to be *****

Don't buy Ashley. Kids will break it in no time wrestling on it, climbing on the back, sitting/jumping on the arm rests.

For the price, it's not great. Try Living Spaces or Nebraska Furniture Mart if there is one near you. Same quality and much more reasonably priced.

We were on a budget having gotten married right after college and got our whole living room set from Ashley (2012). Even with 3 little kids over the time frame, it was still in plenty good shape when we sold it last year. Home Zone may be another option to look at as well.

Costco has sectional couches for about $2k that I have seen get abused and hold up.

I bought a sectional at Ashley's. My children are abusing it, but it's holding up fine.

Ashley is like many mid level furniture stores - there's low end stuff and pretty good stuff. We've bought multiple pieces of furniture from them over the years - entertainment centers, bedroom sets, coffee tables…..but they've always been 100% solid wood and top of the line. I'm not sure I'd by a couch from them……. I have one starter rule with couches: If I can lift one end up with one hand, it sucks. Go with top brands only.

Bought a couple of things from Ashley over the years.

Mixed results.

IMO, they are the Harbor Freight of tools, except they deal in furniture.

Good deals on certain things that you might use occasionally.

Not so good if you want to the items to hold up with wear & tear on a regular basis.

Avoid "leather" couches.

Our western-style bedframe, however has lasted for years....

Very disposable furniture that is over priced. Those hole in the wall furniture stores can order the same stuff for half the price. If one of those ghetto furniture stores doesn't have anything you like in their showroom, ask them if they have a catalog you can order from.

We got a great deal on a china cabinet and dining room table at Ashley.

The couch we got has been pretty horrible. Falling apart within months of purchase. We have a dog and 4 kids - so we will ride out for a few more years (had it for about 2 or 3). But not good.

I think you're in Houston. We bought a large sectional from Skero's and have enjoyed it. Found their stuff to be a good quality with reasonable pricing.

Stay away from leather. Stay away from anything that will be heavily used. I think these kinds of places are mostly useful for getting a deal on furniture that is mainly seen but not used, ie certain end tables or table against the wall in the foyer, guest room furniture, etc.

It's decent for cheap furniture, but be prepared to wait months before getting it.

Over the last few years I've replaced all of the furniture I bought at Ashley, except for one sectional. There was nothing really wrong with the things I replaced; mostly just a change in style and also my kid is old enough now to not destroy things, so I've been investing in higher end furniture. But I'll say that even though I'm tired of the sectional just based on style, I haven't brought myself to replace it because it is in excellent condition. It's 7 years old now and there are no stains, no tears, no sagging, no visible wear. It's incredibly comfortable. I can't even remember what I paid for it, but I've definitely gotten my $ worth from it.

Buying Ashley furniture direct from Ashley is the most expensive way to buy it. They sell it through tons of other dealers and you can get a much better price.

We bought a sectional that has held up well through two kids. Ashley had it at like $2200 msrp, on sale for $1800. Wanted to get it a bit lower but the sales guy was a jerk so I walked. Found the same sectional at another local store and got it for $1150 delivered.

I bought this from Ashley /Rooms to Go to help stage the house in SA I was selling at the end of 2010 when I was moving here. The finish started to flake around 2.5 years old and here's where it is now. I was going to replace it with a tulip table and chairs but that's out of the budget for the foreseeable future, so this year or next I'll strip the finish and redo it.

At this point it's sort of due anyway, because the whole wenge finish thing went out of style more than a decade ago. The table has actual veneer of some kind and it's pretty thick. It might actually come out nice.

If you don't get leather, make sure you get some kind of protective coating. I got DuPont stain master put on my beige microfiber sofa and I can tell you it still looks new and I've had it a very long time.

Also they sell furniture now where you can take the covers off and wash them.

We bought a games day house in College Station in 2014. We furnished it almost exclusively with furniture we bought at estate sales. The couch is getting a little worn now but every football weekend we have friends wanting to sleep on it because it is so comfortable.

My wife got a few things re-covered. And that is expensive in and of itself. But still saved $$$ and got good quality.
