Why do wake up calls in hotels still exist?

Only animals dump their suitcase on the floor upon arrival

Because 99% of the time I stay in a hotel I'm so far gone I couldn't find the buttons to push on my phone anyway. Easier for someone else to just wake me up.

I do if I'm staying more than a couple nights. Nice not having to dig around in the suitcase when you need clothes. Plus you can toss the suitcase in the closet and free up space.

Followed closely by those checking out in person. Just leave - they e-mail you the receipt.

Checking out is just an old habit. Especially if you have to walk by the front desk to leave anyway.

I don't review the bill or anything. Just drop the keys on the counter and say adios. The keys are reprogrammable, right?

I generally just casually mention to the front desk that "Room XXX is empty," as I walk by.

Takes me ten seconds to stop and tell them I'm leaving and throw my room keys on the counter. Then I know they can start cleaning the room early.

Early clean times mean earlier check in availability for someone else. I know that when I travel it's nice to be able to check in a little early if needed and go up to the room for half an hour to refresh.

But then again, I don't watch band videos and I'm a considerate human being.

Just check out on the app like a normal person.

A few thoughts:

a) I actually love wakeup calls from the front desk when I'm on vacation. It's a novel thing, feels like you are getting luxury care, and talking to a human and acknowledging that I received the call makes me more likely to actually get up and start my day when I am not obligated to do so...aka I'm less likely to waste time basking in a comfy bed when I could be out exploring. if its a robo alarm call ...booo

b) I asked a friend who travels for work all the time about checking out. He said that if they mess up your bill, it is much much easier to clear up at the front desk, rather than chasing down later .. plus the bonus that was mentioned earlier where they could get the room cleaned earlier for the next guest.

c) organizing a hotel room that you are staying at for more than 2 nights makes everything feel a little bit more luxurious as well..and keeps your room prettier, your outfits more organized, and increases efficiency while in the room.

Surprised no one's brought up room service.

I didn't realize hotels had stopped doing daily housekeeping service until my last trip. I was unamused.

Higher end places do daily house cleaning.

If I'm staying more than 2 nights, I always unpack.

Wake up call is sort of a security blanket - especially when I need to be out of bed and moving by a specific time. I don't have a land line in my house so a loud phone ringing is a good signal that something is going on and I need to wake my ass up.

Hilton Anatole in Dallas did not do daily room cleaning. I guess it depends on how you define high end.

bit of a surprise that a convention center type hotel isn't doing it.

That said, I've heard tons of places are really struggling to find people to show up.

A lot of hotels are simply only doing it upon request. Ibwas at 2 fairly nice hotels over the last week and both were this way.

This has been my experience as well, that if you ask for daily, they will do it.. I assume its due to staffing issues more than anything. Im not a slob so I don't need fresh sheets and towels everyday so not that big of deal.

Higher chance of accidentally leaving something behind or taking home some bedbugs if you are traveling on the coasts.

Fwiw, I'll use the drawers for extended stay. A night or two, I just live out of my luggage.

I always check out and get a final receipt. I know they'll mail it, but on 3 straight hotel stays in 3 different cities I had hotels incorrectly add fees to my bill after I checked out (parking, restaurant). Having a zero balance receipt made the process of contesting the added charges easier.

Regarding check out, I like to check out at the desk too. I stayed in Vegas once where they had the snacks in the room. I picked up a can of Pringles to see if there was an RFID tag on it somewhere, then set it right back down where it had originally been. When we went to check out there was a charge on my bill for $6 for the Pringles can that I had only picked up.

My wife would put her clothes away even if we had an hourly room. It would be done before any other activities could even commence.

this happened at the cosmopolitan, we had a wrap around suite and there was this 'love box' on the shelf. We picked it up to read/look at the box.

A few days later I see the $59 charge on my bill lol.

Doesn't matter if you check out in person or call them later, they corrected the problem.

Seriously. Who wants to dig through the suitcase and pull out wrinkled clothes every morning?
