They aren't even in the same zone to compare them

They're both great, but it's impossible to really enjoy The Beach Boys from October through mid March. Beatles are good 12 months a year.

And seriously, I agree with all the lists that have Beatles as the greatest band of all time, usually followed by the Stones.

It's like comparing apples and oranges. With that said, THE BEATLES.

Do any of you older Ags remember the Beach Boys at G. Rollie in '79? Probably one of my favorite concerts. The entire original band was still intact.

I think the Beatles are better than the Beach Boys, but I think Pet Sounds is better than any Beatles album and God Only Knows is better than any Beatles song. The problem with the Beach Boys is that they only have 2 great albums where the Beatles have like 7.

The start of the demise of American culture occurred when the Beatles dominated The Beach Boys .

Every Beach Boys song sounds the same.

The answer is obviously the Beatles, but Pet Sounds was apparently revolutionary at the time in terms of production and sound mixing (not sure if that's the technically correct word).

Huge Beach Boys fan, aside from that scrotum Mike Love, but The Beatles were just on another level above everyone else. Having said that, I think that Pet Sounds is the greatest album ever made.

Paul McCartney also called it his favorite song, and he always said they were directly competing with the Beach Boys in the studio. I think they made each other better.

The Beatles actually played their instruments in the studio. Beach Boys used the Wrecking Crew as the studio musicians for Pet Sounds

Yeah, but about half of what most people think makes the Beatles sound so great, had nothing to do with John, Paul, George or Ringo, but came from the RCA studio engineers.

Speaking strictly of studio production, I think Beach Boys were better. And much better vocal harmonies, obviously.

I agree it's tough to put them ahead of the Beatles due to sheer quantity put out by them, but raw talent wise I think they were on par.

Both were great, but the Beatles were greater.

Beach Boys could never really leave their roots the way the Beatles did. I watched their "authorized" documentary a few days ago with a lot of live performances. Very talented group, esp Brian of course.

I always thought the Beatles "sound" was John and Paul singing in unison.
