Gray Mini-Schnauzer. Mine was quiet, smart, affectionate, and loved to hunt squirrels. No shedding. Got positive comments everywhere she went and hung out briefly with Miss Reveille.
We have a <2 year old right now. He's definitely not quiet. But he can be when he wants to be. Wouldn't trade him for the world.

To add the why. Smartest dogs I've ever seen were of these two breeds.

Sheltie. Smart as a whip, pretty coats, obedient and loving. Good with kids and good with alerting owners to danger.

Border Collie...smart, gentle, fun to play with, can actually herd cats!

Dog with minimal shedding and personality traits of a labrador.

So I guess it'll have to be a labradoodle.

I love German Shepards, but if push came to shove...

Labrador Retriever

probably a "dark yellow" (aka "fox red").

Dad-O-Lot , are you my daughter in disguise?

The heeler is identical to her most recent rescue.

The Aussie looks so much like her last dog that we buried this past summer (after a good long 14+ years). Another rescue that hit the jackpot.

Akita. Strong willed and not for the faint of heart but incredibly loyal and protective of the immediate family. My two sons grew up with a 90 pound female and she dedicated her life to them. Beware criminal break ins because they will not bark and will kill.

My brother and SIL have a golden doodle and that is the worst smelling dog I've ever been around. It perpetually smells very strongly of "outside dog". It's also gigantic and has no respect for personal space. Very protective though, it doesn't let their yappy little yorkie and yorkiepoo dogs give me or my daughter any *****

Catahoula.

Although the best dog I've ever seen was an Anatolian Shepherd that showed up in our pasture one day. She proceeded to spend the next 12 years with our horses watching over them and the foals.

We have two yorkies. Both are registered but look completely different. Little boy is cute as hell and little girl is bigger than she should be (big all over not fat) but beautiful.

We got yorkies primarily because my daughter got one and we fell in love. But they're small enough to be inside dogs, don't shed, and have great (trainable) personalities.

I love 'em both, but I had an Aussie for 12 years. I've never loved a dog like that dog. All they really want to do is go, and be included. Mine woudn't have surprised me if he said "thank you" sometime. They're just happy dogs, although they don't care for people they don't know.

Oh, his name was "HOWDY"!

Wife and I have been married 40 years and have had four dogs in that time span. 2 Cairns and 2 Westies. We travel too much to get another. But, if we ever do it will be one of those.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

Had a white mini schnauzer that we put down in March at 17 years old. I got him when he was 6 weeks old. That dude was one of a kind.

I think all dogs are great except poodles.

With that said, pit bulls are what I'll always own.

You wanna chill? They'll chill.

You want an adventure? You son of a *****, I'm in!

No poodle love? Did a poodle once chase your pit bull causing him to hightail it and run away with his tail between his legs?

At 5:00, I posted my response to the OP. Y'all will find this story from today entertaining, albeit painful.

When I put Howdy down four years ago, my busy body Aggie friends got me a 1 1/2 year old dog from the Dallas SPCA. He's blue healer and "fill in the blank" ( we don't know). About 2 weeks ago, he was chasing a ball and hit one of my clay planters so hard it shattered into six pieces. He yelped really loud, and limped around the corner. I honestly thought he might have broken his leg. After checking, and allowing him to recover, I decided he'd have a hell of a bruise, but not torn tendons or cracked bones.

The last two days,he's been limping a lot, so I took him to the vet this morning to drop him off for xrays, etc.. I picked him up at 3:30, and the vet called me in to see Zorros xray. There are a minimum of 20 buckshot from a shotgun in his butt. Apparently, someone blasted him with a shotgun before I got him, and two of the birdshot (I assume, because they're small) are still in him. They're are at least, 20 or more still there, but two are lodged in his leg joint.

He has two of them that are trying to work their way out of his rear left leg. If they don't come out in two weeks, we'll take them out, but he had to have been in pain, but wasn't really limping badly until the last 2-3 days.

Damn, animals are tough. Hell of a story!

I was just joking. I'm not a big fan of poodles or any dog that can't chill.

Some sicko dude who thought he was a man shot your dog. These type like to brag about it then crawfish when they get called out on it.

I wish Zorro a quick full recovery.

Edited: You mean someone shot him before you got him from the SPCA?

Some really sorry-ass people out there.
