The great thing is you have a friend for life and he/she has hit the jackpot with you. It's a good thing.

I can't adopt another dog, but I plan on buying a crap ton of blankets and taking them to the local shelter. The thought of pups sleeping on cold concrete makes me miserable.

First of all, God Bess ya!

Secondly, it shocked the hell out of me. You could have two horns, red scaly skin, and a pitchfork, and this dog would wag his tail when he saw you. Never had one this gregarious, but he had to have been in SOME pain.

There was so much in there, I don't believe he would have made it through a CATSCAN due to the metal.

And yes, he's always had what I considered to be a BB in his ear, but assumed it would work it's way out. I never thought it was the result of birdshot. My immediate thought was what y'all said, "I have several shotguns too, let's see how your ass drags with birdshot in your lousy ass".

I've had 10 dogs. All were awesome people.

But, the German Shepherd is simply more dog. Capable of doing and learning anything.

Strong, fast, athletic and very intelligent.

Only drawback is shedding.

I grew up with poodles, and I loved the standard we had when I was younger, but now we have dachshunds, both smooth-coat tweeners. They are so loving, and they aren't afraid to let us know if someone or something is around.

I love all dogs, though. You just have to pick the one that matches your lifestyle.

We currently have two mutts, one 90lb one 40lb.

I really want a Siberian Husky for my next puppy. I love their look, energy, and how vocal they are.

Likely buying from Central Texas Husky a small home breeder.

huskies are awesome, but please research the breed. they can be a handful.

they can have a high prey drive.
they can climb chain link fences. they can be big diggers and go under fences. they can destroy fences. they are known for beign escape artists.,
they can destroy your possessions in the house when left alone.

all of this EVEN if you exercise them.

they shed. A lot. more than you can possibly imagine.

I only do huskies and always will, but people get these dogs because of their looks and romantic ideas they are close to wolves. and do not understand what they are getting.

I have mostly hit the lottery - almost all fantastic dogs. But I have had one that was evil incarnate.
destructive, high prey drive. but i still loved him. I just had to modify my house and my handling of his.

I've been researching them for about 7 years so yes I'm very aware of their high maintenance nature!

Crazy, loyal and fun.

Sounds exactly like my male. I wish I could clone him. My black female is the exact opposite and makes me question my decision to get another dog on a near daily basis.

CAT scan uses X-rays which aren't affected by metal - except showing the metal of course. It's the MRI that metal effects - especially magnetic materials as the MRI will try to rip the metal out (not pleasant to think about).

Sounds like a great dog and he's lucky to find such a good home.

I've had Husky and Samoyed dogs - extremely smart and very energetic as you know. They really don't do as well in hot climates though - hope you are in a cooler climate.

Boerboel/South African Mastiff

I didn't know about this breed until I did a few of those match dogs with you website services, and it came back as a suggestion. The more I learn about them the more I like them. I'm not sure why they aren't more popular.

I always wonder about that when I see a husky, or something along those lines, in Texas.

I've always had mine on properties I have in the mountains. I'vet never had one in south Texas - I've got a nephew who has had a couple huskies in SA and I felt they were real uncomfortable in that climate.

Good Lord!

I've never seen any of the Mastiffs or Great Danes that weren't lovable monsters. I'm sure there are exceptions, but they're so frickin' big, and scare the crap out of everyone, that most don't know their gentle nature.

Siberian Husky are actually fine in heat.

https://wagwalking.com/sense/can-husky-dogs-live-in-hot-weather

Of course any dog can overheat when it is > 90 degrees- and you have to deal with their incredible shedding!

I grew up with labs and they were great dogs but a little over a year ago my wife and I got a Rottweiler puppy and I don't know that I've ever had a dog with as much personality as her. She is now around 105 lbs, and still thinks she is a lap dog. She is great for protection and companionship but useless for anything else. I'm pretty sure she doesn't realize she is dog. We recently got a Hangin Tree Cattle Dog and she may be the smartest dog I've ever had. She is very task oriented and come the spring I think she is going to be really good at rounding up the chickens each night.

we got our first almost 5 years ago. Sweetest velcro dog there is. Bonus points for almost no shedding or stinky dog smell (minus the farts obvi). I grew up with labs and my favorite in laws have two beautiful gsps and I love them all but there is something special about a vizsla.

To add the why. Smartest dogs I've ever seen were of these two breeds.

This, but mix them together = Texas Heeler

I have one of what is referred to as these Texas Heeler dogs. Very smart. Loyal. Wonderful dog, but they definitely require some time and effort!

Another vote here for mini Schnauzer. Non-shedding, portable, smart, fun personality, does well alone (no 2nd dog needed), doesn't break the bank for food.

They say you adopt a mini schnauzer, then you need to give them about a week to decide how they will run things in your home.

Next duo of dogs will be a GSD and and Golden Retriever. Will need a heavy duty vacuum.

Have both a boxer and a german shorthair pointer. The GSP is more affectionate when it is completely exhausted, but until that point he couldnt care less that anything exists beyond his fetch stick. The boxer's personality is tops in my book. I'd get another boxer but probably not another GSP.

I've had robot vacuums for years, probably up to a decade now. The new (and expensive) Roomba S9+ is amazing.
