That outfit is perfect given the context of the song. Or maybe I have a weird thing for Natalie.

I'm not mad at them, they have a right to be idiots. If I boycotted every celebrity that was a dumb lefty there wouldn't be much music to listen too or movies to watch.

Well to be fair I left off the part where he had sex with his daughter

Age of consent was 16 in Michigan at the time. 14 in Hawaii.leakypipes said:Duncan Idaho said:leakypipes said:

Oh so not his biological daughter. Plus she was also 17. I can't speak for the 70's, but 17 is legal age to consent to sex in Texas.

It's easy. Because they had a platform and used it. Money isn't everything to some people.txags92 said:
I have to honestly say that I don't know why any artist who is selling their work for a living sees value in doing this. Take any issue where there is a sizeable group supporting both sides, and where it is contentious enough that you think anybody is likely to give a rat's a** what you have to say about it. If you voice your opinion forcefully and publicly on that issue, what do you stand to gain? You know you are going to piss off a big chunk of the people that disagree with you...and the people that care what you say and already agree with you, what more can they do for you if they are already buying your stuff? On any issue that contentious, nobody is changing their minds because some random country music artist speaks their mind about it. So what have you really gained other than losing a chunk of your paying fans?

If Natalie had walked away without anger and bitterness in her heart, then I would say you have a good point. But she did not and a year later her music was angry, prideful and unapologetic. And even now she is still angry even though she decided to bite the hand that fed them. I'm guessing she is angry because she lost a huge opportunity for greater fame, a larger platform and greater wealth but instead will be / has been forgotten. A tragedy for sure.

Shania Twain is probably as insipid and boring as her music.
The good news is, buying Dixie Chicks records is not compulsory.rwtxag83 said:HTXAG19 said:But it doesn't. It's music. I don't spend money in either one, and yes, their political stance, but more importantly, the in your face manner in which they express it, has a lot to do with that.
I have no doubt some of the places I do spend money support things I don't agree with, but usually they are smart enough to enough to keep their mouth shut.
I don't spend any real time or effort researchingwho I avoid patronizing, but I also won't ignore blatant political virtue signaling.
Elvis Presley was the smartest entertainer I ever saw where this stuff is concerned. Even when pushed, he made it clear he was just not going to get into political comments.
I work damn hard for my money. I've been blessed to make a lot of it. I will not support stuff that blatantly flies in the face of my beliefs.
Of course she is unapologetic. That's because she isn't sorry for what she said. She was angry because she was receiving death threats for what she said. And "I'm not ready to make nice" was about her giving the middle finger to those trying to intimidate her. And maybe she doesn't think it's a tragedy. Again, some people care about more than money and fame.hsjnlssmith89 said:BQCadet said:It's easy. Because they had a platform and used it. Money isn't everything to some people.txags92 said:

Used it to speak her mind. For some people that's more valuable than money. You guys act like they are all poor and homeless now. They are all still set for life.txags92 said:BQCadet said:It's easy. Because they had a platform and used it. Money isn't everything to some people.txags92 said:

"Used it" for what? Who were they converting? Nobody was going to hear what they said and suddenly say "you know what, they are right?" People who already agreed with them aren't going to change what they do, and people who don't agree will either tune them out or stop buying their music. Either way they had no impact, and they managed to destroy their career in the process.
Most classic country megastars were/are VERY liberal. Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson among them.Charpie said:
