That outfit is perfect given the context of the song. Or maybe I have a weird thing for Natalie.

You will someday young grasshopper.

Wait until you start making some real money and have a family. The real world around you will matter a little more.
But it doesn't. It's music. Them hating a president has nothing to do with how good they are at making music. Do you boycott Target and Starbucks too?

I don't spend money in either one, and yes, their political stance, but more importantly, the in your face manner in which they express it, has a lot to do with that.

I have no doubt some of the places I do spend money support things I don't agree with, but usually they are smart enough to enough to keep their mouth shut.

I don't spend any real time or effort researchingwho I avoid patronizing, but I also won't ignore blatant political virtue signaling.

Elvis Presley was the smartest entertainer I ever saw where this stuff is concerned. Even when pushed, he made it clear he was just not going to get into political comments.

I work damn hard for my money. I've been blessed to make a lot of it. I will not support stuff that blatantly flies in the face of my beliefs.

Oh so not his biological daughter. Plus she was also 17. I can't speak for the 70's, but 17 is legal age to consent to sex in Texas.

Age of consent was 16 in Michigan at the time. 14 in Hawaii.

I have to honestly say that I don't know why any artist who is selling their work for a living sees value in doing this. Take any issue where there is a sizeable group supporting both sides, and where it is contentious enough that you think anybody is likely to give a rat's a** what you have to say about it. If you voice your opinion forcefully and publicly on that issue, what do you stand to gain? You know you are going to piss off a big chunk of the people that disagree with you...and the people that care what you say and already agree with you, what more can they do for you if they are already buying your stuff? On any issue that contentious, nobody is changing their minds because some random country music artist speaks their mind about it. So what have you really gained other than losing a chunk of your paying fans?
It's easy. Because they had a platform and used it. Money isn't everything to some people.

"Used it" for what? Who were they converting? Nobody was going to hear what they said and suddenly say "you know what, they are right?" People who already agreed with them aren't going to change what they do, and people who don't agree will either tune them out or stop buying their music. Either way they had no impact, and they managed to destroy their career in the process.

If Natalie had walked away without anger and bitterness in her heart, then I would say you have a good point. But she did not and a year later her music was angry, prideful and unapologetic. And even now she is still angry even though she decided to bite the hand that fed them. I'm guessing she is angry because she lost a huge opportunity for greater fame, a larger platform and greater wealth but instead will be / has been forgotten. A tragedy for sure.

Completely agree...it is a tragedy when an artist makes art that reflects their beliefs.

The world needs more Spice Girls and less Patti Smith

I felt the same way when I hear that "angry, prideful and unapologetic" toby Keith.

Why is it that many entertainers cant seem to understand that entertainment is as much about the personality behind the art as it is the art itself? And when you mix the two it may turn off as many as it may turn on.

The Dixie Chick music was perfectly fine. Her opinion was her opinion. I know plenty of people that didn't like George W. Bush, and we still remain friends. A big turnoff for many of Natalie Mains' fans was her pissy attitude about the whole ordeal.

Of course she is unapologetic. That's because she isn't sorry for what she said. She was angry because she was receiving death threats for what she said. And "I'm not ready to make nice" was about her giving the middle finger to those trying to intimidate her. And maybe she doesn't think it's a tragedy. Again, some people care about more than money and fame.
