Trump is a compulsive liar.
The last I heard, he campaigned on 38 different things he wanted to accomplish and has taken care of about 32-34 of them.
What has he compulsively lied about? Sex with a porn actress?
Watch any of his rallies. He regularly says things that are straight-up false and his supporters eat it up. We already know he always lies about his crowd size because he's more insecure than a 14-year-old girl at the homecoming dance.
I didn't vote for the guy and won't in 2020, but this is why Trump may be a genius, or at least way ahead of the curve. He seems to understand the modern truth that facts don't matter. The goal is to win, gain influence, and enact your policies, not to be honest or trustworthy. Being rational and honest and composed, if your audience and constituents don't care, is not worth anything. There are NO COMPELLING REASONS TO TELL THE TRUTH. And every time he gets a reaction from the Left or the media, it HELPS him. He's so in their kitchen, it's ridiculous. They can't stop talking about him, getting outraged and triggered which half the country finds hilarious or somehow poetic. And why not enrage them when they're going to rail against him anyway? Trump could end hunger in America and he wouldn't get any praise from them anyway, so he might as well antagonize them.
Trump isn't alone on this, of course, just more extreme. Take Hillary's fake accents she put on when on the trail. Or her shaking hands in a soul food restaurant and claiming she kept a bottle of hot sauce in her purse. Everyone KNEW she was full of it but just let it slide. Two innocuous examples but illustrations of a fundamental difference between Trump and pretty much every politician. He's the same guy every day, in front of every audience. He's more genuine than any politician in DC, even if his true self is a total asshat.
It's the latest iteration to the Bill Clinton, "Yeah I did it... so what?" defense. It's only going to get worse, because it works.
