What has happened to people that created these weird allergies? I (like everyone else) went through 12 years of eating in the school cafegymatorium, which served peanut butter cookies at least once a week and NO ONE ever flopped around on the floor like a fish from peanut allergies.

What changed since then?

Hand sanitizer and kids being kept inside too much as todlers

Bingo. That and we've phased out Darwinism over the past few decades. The species has become weaker as a result. The next thing you know, quarterbacks will have flags around their belts and effeminate males will no longer be ridiculed into masculinity.

When you were young, the kids with these kinds of allergies probably died before reaching school age.

If the punk did it on purpose, charge him as an adult.

I hope his life is ruined for his stupidity.

At 13 kids do a bunch of dumb ***** This kid had severe allergies. And should not have been in public school.

How ridiculous is it to a lot of the adults on here that this kid was allergic to that much stuff that seriously. Chances are good this kid did not realize that a piece of cheese on the skin was going to result in his classmates death.

Hell I am in the healthcare industry and I found it hard to believe. Yeah what the 13 year old said was dumb and wrong, potentially malicious or could have been the dumbass mistake of a 13 year old.

I repeat: 13 year old. It's not like the kid went out and got a gun and held it to the dead kid's head. He put a piece of cheese down his shirt.

1) the allergic kid should not have been in public school- an environment where the cafeteria in uncontrolled, and all kinds of food particles are lying around. If a piece of cheese on the skin killed him he needed to be in a restricted environment.

I wonder what his doctors recommended as far as segregation. IMHO the parents are responsible for neglect of a child and as adults should face a stiffer punishment than the 13 year old that put he cheese on he kid, as the allergic kid should never have been in public school to begin with.

like others have mentioned, if a piece of cheese against his skin killed him then I don't see how he survived to 13 in a public school environment. He would have had extremely adverse reactions well prior to this.

Geez.

Or maybe it's because we have advanced medically to the point where kids don't die very young...

That won't last long once we get UHC and the weak ones are weeded out by death panels.

Is it possible that the kid did not die from an allergic reaction due to the cheese touching his skin? Is it possible that the kid had a panic attack (due to a fear of cheese instilled by his parents), that led to an asthma attack that led to his death?

I don't know if it's even possible to differentiate, or if it would even matter in a court of law.

I just find it incredibly hard to believe that cheese touching his skin and not being ingested caused such a severe allergic reaction.

Why was a kid with those allergies in general population?

Medical issues can screw with allergen tolerance, too.
I've had heart issues, and for some reason I am now allergic to my favorite food.....shrimp. When the allergy started around the age of 40, I could eat them and then would start itching down in my ear canal. I wanted to take a fork and scratch the itch. I had more heart issues this June. A week later, I ate 6 shrimp, and within a couple of minutes, I had anaphylactic symptoms. Swollen lips, throat, tongue..sneezing, watery eyes, etc. I had to sleep sitting up for 3 days cause I would choke when I laid down in bed.
I'm now terrified of eating any type of shellfish, as my doc says it'll prolly kill me if I do. I've gotta get an epipen now.
I used to laugh at the "allergy kids". Now I know it's a real thing.
Could be gallbladder related....my mom grew up eating shell fish and then became allergic as an adult. She eventually had her GB removed and viola, she can eat shrimp again without issue.

i give my kids PB on a spoon and they eat it like a popsicle. They are almost 2. Have to nip the allergens in the bud.

I suspect daycare vs nanny/shm has some affect.
You should also rub poison ivy on their bed sheets and let bees sting them at last once a week.

So do all of your kids have some sort of allergy that you see as everyone elses problem or just one of them? You're not sensitive at all about this.

If you can die from touching cheese, you should not be in school with normal kids. That is bat **** insane.

And a potential murder charge? Really? Bull****
manslaughter.

yes

If anyone is going to be charged it should be his parents. They knowingly risked his life by sending him into a place where multiple meals are served each day and hundreds of kids can bring their lunch. That's stupidity and a lot closer to child endangerment than an ignorant child who can't comprehend cause and effect.

I agree with Seattle-
13 year old kids are 3 year away from driving...5 years away from carrying a weapon and defending our country. They are not too young to understand that if they are told a piece of cheese will kill their classmate, that it will (or might), indeed, kill their classmate. To challenge that statement by putting a slice of cheese down his shirt is pretty bold... and murder.
Bruce Almighty

Its murder. The kid knew he had an allergy, otherwise he wouldn't of put the cheese down the kid's shirt. He tried to physically cause harm on another kid and that kid died as a result of that attempt of harm. I don't care if the kid was ignorant to the severity of the allergy, he's at fault, and his actions killed someone else.

A couple of decades ago, there was a guideline that suggested that pregnant women avoid certain foods like peanuts if one had any kind of allergies. The growing body of current research since then has shown that was most likely the wrong thing to do and has had the opposite effect.

Maternal diet is now believed to have a much greater influence on not only allergies but even food preferences of children later in life.
