At a coroner's inquest held this week, police officers and paramedics testified about Cheema's death last July. The boy had severe allergies to wheat, gluten, dairy products, eggs and nuts, and was also an asthmatic. His classmates were aware of his conditionbut his death was allegedly caused by a fellow student who dropped a slice of cheese down the back of his shirt.

School staff members quickly administered his asthma inhaler, gave him two doses of an antihistamine, and injected him with an Epipen to prevent anaphylaxis. According to The Telegraph, one first responder testified that he and his ambulance crew arrived at the school seven minutes after being called.

One of Cheema's 13-year-old classmates was arrested shortly after the incident on suspicion of attempted murder, but has not been formally charged. A police officer said that the student was no longer enrolled at that school.

Death of dairy by contact? Wow. Everyone I have known that was allergic to dairy, they had to eat it.

Contact is nuts.

Do you think the kids REALLY knew what could happen?

Also, should a kid that dangerously vulnerable to that many things be outside of a carefully protected space?

I'm surprised he made it to 13.

If the punk did it on purpose, charge him as an adult.

I hope his life is ruined for his stupidity.

Why would you put a slice of cheese down someone's shirt unless you knew it would do something?

And it seems pretty easy to avoid touching dairy unless a malicious person forces it upon you. Just like it's pretty easy to avoid contact with bullets unless a malicious person forces it upon you.

Or, as has been discussed on other threads, a kid that susceptible shouldn't be in a school.

Maybe they didn't believe something so benign could be so dangerous, and wanted to see if it was true. Kids are stupid.

We were told by school staff that perhaps someone had chased the patient with cheese and had proceeded to throw it down his t-shirt.

This

I wouldn't trust the life of my child to government employees and stupid teens/pre-teens who outnumber them 20-1

If the kid made it to 13 in public school he should've been fine to continue going. At that point he's old enough to watch out for himself. There would be no problem if the other kid hadn't acted maliciously.

He shouldn't have to stay in a padded room out of fear of being harmed on purpose by other kids. They need to make a lesson out of the failure that got this poor kid killed

I know this was in the UK, but by US standards I think this would be felony murder. The perpetrator committed battery against him in a way that he knew could cause physical harm. The victim died due to a reaction from this criminal battery.

Poor kid. I'm allergic to penicillin, but most people don't know. It could kill me. I'm also allergic to certain weeds and grass. But, I don't make it a big deal. I'm almost certain that this kid or his parents were insufferable about the allergies to the point that it impacted others' lives - ie, no dairy treats, no nuts in the classroom etc. it probably got to the point that people just couldn't take the poor little guy's bs anymore.

This is not a justification to commit a battery on him that resulted in his death, im just saying that it can sometimes become too much. If you're allergic to something, don't expect everybody else to give up the product.

If you can die from touching cheese, you should not be in school with normal kids. That is bat **** insane.

And a potential murder charge? Really? Bull****

What has happened to people that created these weird allergies? I (like everyone else) went through 12 years of eating in the school cafegymatorium, which served peanut butter cookies at least once a week and NO ONE ever flopped around on the floor like a fish from peanut allergies.

What changed since then?

i give my kids PB on a spoon and they eat it like a popsicle. They are almost 2. Have to nip the allergens in the bud.

I suspect daycare vs nanny/shm has some affect.

You should also rub poison ivy on their bed sheets and let bees sting them at last once a week.

There's a big difference between a kid that can't touch cheese and a kid that can't be in the same building as nuts. Like I said, it's very easy to avoid touching cheese, it's very difficult to avoid being in the same building as nuts.

Medical issues can screw with allergen tolerance, too.
I've had heart issues, and for some reason I am now allergic to my favorite food.....shrimp. When the allergy started around the age of 40, I could eat them and then would start itching down in my ear canal. I wanted to take a fork and scratch the itch. I had more heart issues this June. A week later, I ate 6 shrimp, and within a couple of minutes, I had anaphylactic symptoms. Swollen lips, throat, tongue..sneezing, watery eyes, etc. I had to sleep sitting up for 3 days cause I would choke when I laid down in bed.
I'm now terrified of eating any type of shellfish, as my doc says it'll prolly kill me if I do. I've gotta get an epipen now.
I used to laugh at the "allergy kids". Now I know it's a real thing.
