Time wise and milage?

Wife and I are looking at a move .. Little hesitant as it would put us farther away from work ...it's not terribly far but our whole adult life we have been 10-15 minutes out so it would be a change.
Would put her about 30 minutes out and me about 45.. Although I can get by working from home on some days.
Is a little longer drive to work something you get used to or is just a pain in the ass?

45 is pushing it. 30 is fine. Quit your job and let your wife support you

I work at 3 different schools. Furthest school is 20 minutes/7 miles. Closest is 15 minutes/3.5 miles.

Current commute is 7 miles @ 20 minutes

A previous commute of 20 miles @ 45 minutes was killing me. By the time I got home I was exhausted after fighting traffic. I only had the commute for about six months.

25 miles, ~35 minutes.

Been doing it for 7.5yrs, wouldn't change it for the world.

One thing is my commute would be 40-45 minutes however it is nearly 40 miles away and majority of that is highway and would be fighting very very little traffic. So it's a plus I'm not gonna be sitting in traffic and guess it's a knock because it is almost 40 miles.
But it would only be an everyday thing about 3-4 months outta the year.. After that would only be about a couple days a week.

In a previous life my commute was a 15 minute taxi, ~18,000 air miles (actual), and a 9 hour boat ride. All of which took the better part of 3 days. Did this every 4 weeks.

My 15 minute drives to town don't seem that long anymore for some reason

I'm being trained to open a new location about 1 mile from my place, but now halfway through training I'm being given an opportunity to move even higher with-in the organization. This new job is a 14 mile (19-29 minutes) commute from my place. I think I'm going to take it. It's between being a bosses boss close to home, or being a bosses bosses boss a small drive further...

I would consider the time in the car. Do you enjoy being in the car? If so highway miles aren't bad. Are their alternate routes if there is an accident and how much slower are they?

The only thing I wouldn't do is commute by plane every week. I did it for about 3 months and was flying in every Monday and leaving on Fridays. If I had done it much longer I would have stayed over weekends as the whole airport experience began to wear on me.

For 2 years, did 55 miles one way, interstate..Could go 80mph for about 52 of those miles each day. Averaged going in 4 days a week. Whatever you tell yourself to justify it (audio books, little traffic, enjoyable car)- it still sucks big time.

Op don't move unless the house situation really justifies it.

10 minutes. No highway.

Have done the 45-90 min. traffic nightmare before. You do get used to it, but it always sucks. A 10 hour day in the office turns into a 13 hour day away from home way too easily, and you start to suffer the drawbacks to your personal life of being a total workoholic without any of the career benefit. Turns your whole work-life balance into a lose-lose situation IMO, and most people make that trade for a house with a few extra blades of grass that's dead for half the year, and a bunch of extra square footage they hardly ever use. But hey, it looks impressive from the street for the strangers that happen to drive by, so they've got that going for them. Which is nice.

1.5 miles. Timing depends on whether our not I have to wait on the DART train to pass. Some days it takes twice a long.

Usually about 30-35 minutes to work, 35-40 minutes home. On my way home I usually hit a little congestion but mostly it's 70 mph the whole time.

I don't mind it. My office is in a small town and living close to work would mean living in the burbs. Well worth it in my opinion.

Recently moved my office and the new commute is now 30 miles and about 35 minutes - was 25 miles/30 minutes - if I did not live on a lake in rural south texas I probably would live in a tent at the office

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Daily - about 30 feet
Monthly - about 11 miles which takes anywhere from 40-90 minutes
Quarterly - about 10,000 miles which takes between 26-50 hours depending on whether I miss my connection or not.

I'd keep the shorter commute if I were you.

considering the circumference of the earth is about 25,000 miles, you could have shaved about 11,000 miles off your 18,000 mile commute if, you had travelled in the opposite direction.

25 miles and probably about an hour on average. Beltway 8 and 290 are nightmarish.
