1st Job - 48mi / 60-75 min
2nd Job - 70mi / 60 min
3rd Job - 3mi / 10 min
4th Job - 11mi / 20 min

My goal is to never commute more than 30min again in any future jobs. However, if you are going to have a long commute then make sure it is one in which you are constantly moving at or near highway speeds. My first commute was trouble free the first 20 minutes, stop and go for the next 20 minutes, and then another 20 minutes of crowded freeway moving at 75-80% of the posted speed limit. It freaking sucked the life out of me for four years.

about 20 miles.

If I leave for work before 6 am - just over 20 minutes
If I leave between 6 and 6:30 -- about 25 minutes
If I leave between 6:30 and 7 - about 40 minutes
If I leave after 7 -- almost an hour.

If I leave work to come home by 3 pm, about 30 minutes to get home
If I leave work to come home between 3 and 4, about 45 minutes to get home
If I leave work to come home between 5 and 6, an hour to an hour and 15 minutes to get home.

I would live in the same building...

Once you have lived close to work, you will never live far away again. I get circumstances etc.. Even if you take a little less money, it works out way to your benefit in the end!!!

Health wise there is something to be said for being no further than 10 minutes from the golf course, house, kids, school, whatever.

45 now way... Your factoring out a minimum of 90 minutes every day of your life...

About 50 feet from my bed to the couch. I usually stop by the ****ter each morning, so add another 25' or so round trip.

I live in Bryan and I commute to Atlanta. So for me I drive to Austin-Bergstrom and hop on a flight to Atlanta. I work 12-14 days a month and make the round trip 3-5 times a month. I am airline pilot so its not too bad.

Just under 2 miles. 15-20 minutes, half of which is vertical commute until my parking spot in the garage opens back up after flood remediation. Then it will drop to about 10-12 minutes max.

The vertical commute (parking in a crappy hi-rise garage farther from office) gets so annoying that I end up ubering to work about once every other week.

I looked into that, but it was much faster to go east than it was to go west due to flight schedules.

For example, when I worked in Kazakhstan I flew ANC to MSP to AMS to GUW in about 36 hours. A colleague that lived in the Philippines (less than half the distance) took 45 hours of travel because of all the convoluted flight schedules and connections in Asia.

Sounds a lot like when I worked Offshore overseas. 26-30 hours flying, a short night in a hotel, then a 4 hour plane ride, another wait, then a 60-90 minute helicopter ride.
Same here. Kazakhstan and Angola

18-20 minutes depending on how I catch the crappy timed lights in Plano. It's Texas so I don't pay attention to distance, everything is measured in time.

72 miles each way, about 1:10.

I've done that drive 1800 times now and it's starting to get pretty ****ing long.

Luckily it's all rural open highway, so I don't have to pay much attention.

ETA that my wife works from home. Lucky girl.

It's only like a mile, but daycare adds quite a bhit of time.

And I have an 8 minute walk from my car to office. I'm hoping I make it through the wait list this semester and don't have to wait until august to move garages

45 min I think is about the cutoff for sanity.

I am 30 min in the am,40-45 min pm...not great but bearable. Honestly, just getting out of the cluster surrounding my office is much of it and unavoidable. Since discovering podcasts I've been a lot happier.

Last house I was 45 min am/1 hour to 1:30 pm...hated it so much we moved and took a significant loss selling our newly built house.

Right now it's about 7 minutes if I go around the block to get the engine to operating temperature. My worst commute was 55 miles 1 way. Left by 6 to get there by 7. Usually left at 4 or 4:15 to get to the gym by 5:15 if there were no wrecks.

Midland sure sucks but the traffic is a breath of fresh air compared to DFW.

50 miles and 50 minutes. I love the drive. No traffic and gives me time to think and decompress.

50 miles and it takes about 45 minutes all on 2 lane highway. Light traffic, I usually only see 5 or 6 cars on my way to work and less than 50 on the way home.

Plus I get awesome views like these on my drive:

I get to cross the biggest lake in Kansas (I know, that is not saying much.)

I see some pretty awesome moonsets.

Along with some awesome sunrises.

Those special days when the Army tries to burn Ft. Riley to the ground.

Somedays the traffic really sucks

An occasional face to face meeting with some of the local wildlife.

Then I get to enjoy this campus all day.
