Damn straight. Hopefully less people do it.
in Houston everyone works until 4-4:30 to "beat traffic" really it is just an excuse to work fewer hours.

Not if you're in the office at 7-7:30.
in the office at "7" which is really 7:30, out the door at "4:40" which is really more like 4 plus an hour or so for lunch. See it often with the clock punchers.
I'm in at 7:20 and out the door at 3:30-3:45.

8 miles / 15 minutes each way. I've done the 30-45 minute trips each way before, then I realized that suburbs suck.
Hmm, we live out in the burbs, and my wife drives 7 miles and 12 minutes. Funny how that works out.

Southwest Plano to downtown dallas: 18 miles

No traffic: 20 min
Typical rush hour to/from: 45 min
Any wrecks: 1-1.5 hrs

I think we live and work in basically the same areas.

Glen Meadows by chance?

Close! By Prestonwood!
Every time I hear Prestonwood I reminisce about hanging out at that mall in the 80's.

RIP Prestonwood

Honestly the answer lies with you! I have driven up to 1.5hrs one way to a job I really enjoyed. I left really early to avoid the traffic jams and left late for same reason.....the boss let me work 4x 10hrs Days. I just listen to the radio, drank coffee and ate a kolache on the way to work and it was fine. Hell I looked at it as quiet time for me.

Whether I drove 25 min or 1.5 hrs it was all the same.

This.

Right now I drive 1 mile, 3-5 minutes. When I was driving to the office it was 35 miles, and 50 minutes to 1.5 hours. I've always hated traffic and thought id kill myself if I had to drive that far to work. But once I actually had to start doing it I didn't mind it one bit. Sometimes I actually miss the long trip. Now if there's complete stand still traffic then Id go insane

3 miles, 6 minutes.

Unless I am on call and need to go to the hospital, then it is 15 miles 20 minutes to hospital then same trip back to clinic.

Yup. You vs. about 100 of my coworkers who are obsessed with leaving before traffic on their path to suburbia fills up with other commuters.

Oh, so it's a rule at your job. I understand now!

Where I live, more people commute from CBD southbound (towards my burb) then they do from southern burb going to CBD. All those people wanting to live near downtown, and end up with a job in our version of the galleria. Takes them longer to go 10-15 miles than it takes me to go 25. So the 'rule' here is quite different.

I've had to drive towards town at 5pm a few times, and it sucks balls.

I spent 16 years driving from my house west of Weatherford to work in Hurst.

54 miles each way and took about 1 hr. Almost all of it was highway so it didn't suck that bad.

Moved to N Ft Worth now so my drive is a lot shorter 12 mi), but takes 30 min still (google maps says it takes less than that but they're full of ****). No highway driving at all.

If its just to get a bigger house you will spend less time at because you are always on road, then I doubt it is worth it.

So you'll have plenty of time to spend in your tiny dump.

Here, Seattle, Orange County, San Antonio, it was basically the same except for the guy who lived in LaVernia since nobody lives there and he had the road to himself. The closer it got to 4 the more anxious they got about wrapping things up for the day.

In Seattle within the actual city it was bad going inbound or outbound in the afternoons but the level of suckage was a bit less with a reverse commute. The one exception was for those who worked on the east side and lived farther out but that's because there weren't any bridges to deal with.

26 miles and about a 25 minute commute in the morning, 30 minute in the afternoon.

Lots of bragging from people that work from home. While I'm sure that has its advantages, I do like commuting to work. Wish mine was <10 miles though.

I used to live in Field Store near Waller and worked downtown on Commerce St. The daily commute was 1 hr each way in perfect conditions, and 2.5 each way when 290 was bad.

Loved the country house but the commute killed all my family time.

Now in Corpus where there is NEVER any traffic. Life is good on our little sand bar.

4.5 miles, 15-20 minutes most days... I'm very careful with where I buy houses. Hate driving and I'm very glad I chose to leave Austin. Can't imagine what my old commute would be like right now.

My company allows it one day every 2 weeks, which is pretty good. Wish we had 9/80s though. I work for a Fortune 500 company based in Houston.

I actually have 6 links, and was getting super pissed the more info I looked up...So, look it up yourself, I am not going to fight about something I know to be true, to a person who would just as soon see me in prison or dead.

52 miles one way, none of it is highway...a lot of two lane roads that are through the mountains. One 15 minute stretch goes through the Smoky Mountain National Park.

10 miles. No traffic, it would take 15 minutes. But usually it's 20-25 minutes.

Not that bad. Wish it was closer though.
