I've heard people say half your age plus seven is fine, so a 50 year old can date a 32 year old, but I'm not sure if that is accurate or just a made up formula.

Is there an age gap that is acceptable?

My normal limit was, "If she was literally a baby while I was a teenager, that's a no", but I wonder what other people's limits are.

Assuming she (or he) is over 21 and legal to drink, what is the age that is too young for you to date?

This is the key.

Half plus 2 has worked out my direction a few times.

Wouldn't have actually dated them though.

I went by the half your age plus 7 rule. My now-fiancee was 19 and I was 23. It's not as bad at 22/26.

It's so much easier when the girl is somewhat close to your age IMO. There's just too much of a disconnect if the age gap is large in my experience.

I briefly dated a guy that was 18 years my senior. It wasn't too odd for me at the time, but if we had continued it would have gotten weird as he aged. If you're 30 and he is 48, that's not so bad, but 50 and 68 and dating, that's kind of not very appealing.

Was he robbing the cradle?

I have a client and friend that traded in his old wife for a younger model. He's 48 and she's 30. There are obvious advantages with the nice tight bod and all but when they go out with his friends and their wives that are the same age as him, the young piece doesn't have anything in common with them and thus doesn't have anything to talk about. So she will just go in the other room (when at a vacation home) while the adults are talking and play on her iPad. Which I guess is not so bad now that I've typed it out. Don't really have to talk to her much and as long as she has that credit card she's ready for action on a moment's notice.
