I call BS on AZ and NM having coverage. I drove a lot of that a couple of weeks ago and the coverage there was just as bad.

PS-I been to junction plenty times and the cell service is great. Must have a cheap plan or a go phone.

I call bs. I've done the i10 from ft Stockton to San Antonio plenty of time and always had good coverage, even LTE. The only place I didn't have great signal is close to i10/20 area.

i can confirm that Junction is a black hole for Verizon service. from there to Fort Stockton, the service is great. but Junction is horrible. I do that drive regularly, including last weekend.

Your problem is using Verizon. Check out the coverage map, Verizon is garbage in that area. ATT, T-Mobile and the rest have good coverage there and the rest of the state. Your issue is with your crappy cell phone company not the Hill Country which is one of the best parts of Texas the greatest state in the world.

Last time my family made the trip from San Diego to Galveston, the CB Radio worked just fine.
