Maybe you should find something worthwhile to get offended about.

Along the same lines, I once asked a new neighbor if he played golf.
He said 'no'.
I can't imagine how awkward that was for him.

Well now that I have been educated that this is socially acceptable, I look forward to asking people I just met if they've found a good satanic church.

Sounds like OP is embarrassed about something.

Had a friend's wife ask if I've found a good church, yet, as an icebreaker. Politely told her I hadn't found one yet, failed to mention I stopped looking 10 years ago. Do people not realize how awkward this question is given the large percentage of people that are either not Christian or don't go to church, period?

I would love to see where they got their info for this chart. There is no way 70+% of people in the U.S. is church going folk...
quote:I was taught it wasn't good social behavior to talk about religion or politics in polite chit-chat with someone you've only just met.
I agree with OP. It's not good social behavior to assume someone is looking for a church. I don't randomly ask people if they have found a good mosque, or a good scout troop, or a good bible study group.
Reasonable social interaction would be to first find out if a person is religious then ask about their Church. Don't just jump in with the assumption that they are religious and start asking them if they have found a good "church home". Its seem a little weasely and passive aggressive (whether it was intended that way or not).

It'd probably be less awkward if you'd just be honest with them, so she doesn't think that she is asking you a question that she believes is relevant to you.

About the same as doctors asking patients how many firearms are in your house.

They'll probably look at you all confused and say, "WTF?"
Normal questions:
What did you have for dinner?
Did you see the game?
Have you found a church?
Cats or dogs?
Favorite Ninja Turtle?
Awkward questions:
Would you mind if we tandemed your wife?
Have you found a satanic church?
Thought about shooting up a school lately?
Don't you think Socialism is great?
Can you pop this boil on my back?

What a stupid post, the church question doesn't fit in at all with the other "Normal" questions

The point here is that it's a harmless question. There are people on these boards who get offended by the most asinine things. Don't be one of those people. Someone asks you a question, roll with it. Don't get your panties in a wad.

I don't disagree and it's obvious the OP is trolling like usual, I just think there should be an expectation of tact on the asker as well. Don't bring up religion with someone you don't really know, period. That's social skills 101
