death, cold, high altitude, walking past dead bodies that tried to do the same thing before...

I fully supported ride is a teensy bit safer. However, I'm not an adrenaline junkie. Skydiving isn't my thing either.

I have far less interest in the climb (hey man I saw "Everest" the opera... it's pretty avant-garde up there apparently) than I would getting to ride along on those chopper trips. How incredibly badass and risky, even being in the air at that altitude.

Yeah but wouldn't it be cool to be a waypoint up there for years to come like "Green Boots guy?"
You know, something like, "Turn left at the Dead Bald Guy in the Aggies Jacket."

Damn. I hadn't thought of it that way.

"I don't know why that chick is in an evening gown, but turn right at the hot chick in the Zac Posen number"

Could be nice.

Even at Base Camp the air is so thin if you take a few quick steps, it can wind you. I felt pretty buzzed for most of my few minutes there.

Walking past dead bodies? It's not the walking dead. They don't leave bodies up there.

Yeah they do. Google it if you want to be creeped out.

Sometimes they do.

Obviously you don't know much about the place. There are dead bodies all over the mountain and yes, some are waypoints. The cold and lack of oxygen and scavengers preserves the bodies quite nicely. People can barely get themselves up and back, much less carry a dead body down.

While there is a bit of trash at base camp you realize that is mostly prayer flags and tents you see in the picture. We were still a good bit up in the air

Helms, you ever need a co-pilot or a porter or rent-a-slave, let me know. I'll be down in Ecuador climbing volcanoes until then. Have an old S&R coworker of mine that is close friends with the guy who lead the Alpine Ascents expedition up this year. They reached the summit yesterday. Some pics.

Agreed. Everest has always been a huge goal for me, although my friends and family, would rather I not go. Have the gf reading Into Thin Air right now and she is starting to come around.

LMFAO! Those rescue choppers are all flown with a single pilot (no controls on the right seat) and all done by line of sight. No real instruments to navigate with other than a GPS and some of those are just a handheld Garmin. While here this time Discovery Channel was putting together a documentary on them so there is an off chance you might see me if you get a chance to watch it.

Better save some coin. Average all in costs is north of $60k with no guarantee that on your 2-3 day summit assault window you will even have good enough weather.
