I was also at that Night Ranger show. That was 1984.
Saw AC/DC with Yngwie Malmsteen there in 1985. There was a riot afterwards. Hells Bells could be heard from across 610, or so my Dad said.

My favorite of the two-minute films they show at the Alamo Drafthouse.

Since I grew up closer to Dallas than Houston I never went to Astroworld, but I have the same type of memories at Six Flags Over Texas. I remember being jealous when Astroworld got the Batman ride. Soon after we got one too.

I had front row tickets to see Morrissey at Astroworld in 1991.

I also saw the Monkees during their resurgence in 1987, and ran into Mickey Dolenz at the top of a waterslide at Water World next door earlier in the day before the show.

I saw some other bands there, too. Remember that television show with music videos they shot at that dance floor on the Northeast side of the park (IIRC)?

I went to the Milli Vanilli show there back in the day. Don't remember it much, but I remember that I couldn't tell they were lip syncing.

I never went to a concert at Astroworld, but I do remember seeing Astros player Luis Gonzalez with a lady friend around his rookie year. I thought it was cool nobody recognized him and many years later he was a world series game 7 hero.

Not a World Series hero for Houston though

Astroworld turned into a thug hangout and daycare, and that is exactly why it was closed down. Can't earn revenue as a "family park" when you've got a mob of thugs loitering and not spending.

From the bar racism thread.

This is exactly why they have dress code and private party excuses at the door.

I saw the Bangles and Cutting Crew there back in the 80s.

Last time I went, some time in the 2001-2002 time period, i noticed something was different.

most of the male patrons had their shirts rolled up past their bellies. we still had fun but never went back. I got to scare the poo out of my girly man friend and my girlfriend by shaking the cable car.

If you haven't nearly been decapitated by the rogue pipe sticking out at the top of Excalibur as a kid in Tine or gotten your digit slippery as a middle schooler on the cable car trek across the park , you're doing it wrong.

Floating penny on your knee on the sky screamer ... I can hear that alarm blasted across the park all day

It's nice if you're into vinyl and weird hipster sh*t like the people that work there. They have SOME decent in store performances when bands are in town and free Saint Arnold's beer

I was afraid of the sky screamer as a kid. (Ironic, because I would jump off a 50 foot ledge into a river without thinking twice about it) Then I rode it on my last time in the park when I was in college, and loved it. Then they tore it down. Dungeon drop was pretty awesome too, but the line was too long.

Yup. First time my finger got wet was on the cable car was with a 7th grade ginger that turned into quite the f-buddy in HS. Good memories, not so much mammory's.
