Mom just grabbed whatever was in arm's reach at the time of the offense. But, she kept a wooden spoon in the car and was deadly accurate with it...even while driving.
Dad never had to use anything but his hand.
Yep.
And when I was dropped off at my favorite cousin's house to spend the weekend, my mom would say "And don't forget, Aunt Sue has my permission to spank you if necessary."
My cousin was hyper and could dream up more schemes to get into trouble than I ever could. But he always made them sound like a fun adventure.
We turned out fine and I rarely ever got spanked because I realized it wasn't worth it to do whatever it was that got me in trouble.
But not acting like an entitled little brat worked in my favor. When I stayed over at family or friend's houses, they always told my parents "I wish my own kid was as well-behaved as yours".
No way would I dream of acting the way I see some kids act today, and no way would I have gotten away with it the way kids today get away with it, especially in public.
You misbehave in a nice restaurant, the whole family leaves and you go home and have cereal or maybe a grilled cheese or pb&j for dinner. And you face the wrath of your siblings for ruining a night out on the town.
Boy could Aunt Sue swing a spatula and a flyswatter.
