I'd assume most of you'll were. Was it with a belt, hands, wooden spoon, etc... The question is, if and when you have your own kiddos, are you going to spank them?

I've meet too many a parent in my generation(24-40) that doesn't believe in corporal punishment. They revert to other means such as time-out(which is fine, but it can only go so far in disicplining) or grounding.

I think I turned out well and you can bet I will discipline my kids the same way. Kids respond well to the threat of a spanking. I just have to mention the word to my three year old and she straightens up, listens and corrects her behavior.

Spanking may not have made me think about what I did at that moment or even for a while after the spanking. However, if I was acting up later, the threat of another one would get me into line.

Same with school, the threat of swats would automatically make me quit being a class clown.

I was spanked. Started off with the hand, then went to wooden spoons. When I was 3, I broke all of the wooden spoons by holding ont the handle, putting the spoon end in the drawer, and then slammming in shut. Seemed smart....right up until the belt came out. Damn.

Will I spank? Yeah. It seemed to work pretty good for me. Anything you do is worth getting grounded or being put in time out. Not everything you do is worth getting a couple of licks from dad's belt, though. Made you think next time before you did something.

My dad always did the choose your belt punishment. Geeze did that suck. There was also one of those paddles with the string and ball thing that would hurt like the dickens.

I think everyone should be at one point in their lives.

I was spanked on occasion and I will definately do some spanking in my own family. We were spanked with flyswatters and wooden spoons...that kind of thing. It was never out of anger or in the heat of the moment, as it should not be. We would be made to understand what was done wrong and if it warranted a beating, well then it was given.

Wooden spoon was my moms favorite weapon of choice. Dad had a paddle that scared the crud out of me. I never got the paddle but saw BQ93 and my other brother get it a couple of times. Dad got me with the belt most of the time.

Used open hand spanking on my son instead. Did the trick. Haven't had to spank him since he was around 5.

They don't mind, throw tantrums, and continually get into trouble. My brother and I were both spanked when needed and turned out good.

It sure as @#$% made me think about what i was doing and the forthcoming consequences. I probably was spanked less then 10 times in my time. I learn pretty easy. I probably will do it too my kids...hopefully they will have some of my sense.

My mom would threaten me with the wooden spoon...but I rarely, if ever, got spanked.

"Time-out" and "grounding" don't work in today's world - most kids would LOVE to have to be stuck in the room, since most of them have Playstation, DVDs, the internet and IM, etc.

My mom & dad pretty much just had to look at me a certain way and i would stop whatever it was that i was doing. There was certainly some yellling that occurred in our house.

oh-- and "time out" for kids i've had experience with, is pretty effective. When my nephew is given "time out" he is made to sit in a little wooden chair that does not face the tv or a window, has to be quiet, and cannot have any toys.

i've seen him put in time out before. he absolutely HATES it.

it is a good way to handle a situation if the kid is flying off the handle behavior-wise. they usually send him to the time out chair and if he is not capable of sitting in the chair like he is told, then a spanking in threatened.

time out is also a good way to handle disciplining of other people's children-- i would maybe be comfortable spanking my own child, but not someone else's child.

I got spanked, but I quickly learned. But only got a belt once, cause i pushed my brother, who was 3 at the time, on to the brick of the fireplace. I still don't remember it to this day, but my dad swears up and down he did it.

We have friends who do exactly that, and their kids are HORRIBLE. If you're going to threaten a punishment, then you need to follow through with it. Not doing so only teaches the kids that they can do whatever they want with no fear of being disciplined.

I've gotten the hand, the belt, and the wooden spoon. My Dad told me that he used to get the razor strop. I never got that, nor did I get the "pick your switch" treatment that some of my friends got. And yes, I will spank my kids.

I usually got it with a belt. My grandmother used to spank us on occasion with a keen switch from a tree (it actually stung and hurt a lot worse than any belt)

I always found the anticipation of a spanking is usually a lot worse than the spanking itself. My Mom or Dad used to send me to my room to wait for a few minutes before they came in and spanked me. That waiting was a killer. Kind of like: Think about what you did and why it was wrong.

I also used to get the "this hurts me more than it does you" speech.

I got the Razor Strop. Dad still has it. Not fun, in the least.

I have no children, but when I do, spanking is in play. I feel that is used judiciously, it is an effective punishment and deterrant.

I don't really remember getting spankings. I think that my older brother got enough for the both of us. My mom preferred the fly swatter too.

As far as time outs go, I think that it depends on the kids. My niece started using her time outs to think of a way to not get caught the next time. Needless to say, she gets spankings now.

I think that spankings are fine for discipline. However, they are not called for in every situation. I get tired of watching parents in Wal-Mart spank their kids. The last time I saw this, the mother was talking about how the kid had embarassed her and this was their punishment.

I don't remember misbehaving a lot as a child, nor does my mother say my sister and I were bad children and I think it's because of how well they raised us in public situations. Some parents should be shot for allowing their children to behave how they do in public. Jerks.

I was, and I do. No single method works every time for every child. Sometimes time out works, but usually we have to resort to spanking anyway. If you're not a parent now and don't believe in spanking, you just wait. The first time your kid says "NO!" to you and dares you to do something about it, you'll spank. (Just make sure you lose the anger first -- spank to instill discipline, not out of anger or frustration.)

If your parents are dumb enough to leave you in a room w/it. You're supposed to pick a corner, even if it's in the same room as your parents that doesn't have those distractions. Being stuck in a room for a week w/nothing to do is torture. ...ESPECIALLY in today's world of IM, telephones, etc. My mom said the only thing I was allowed to do was read, and sit in the middle of my bed. She took away any joys I had whether it be my radio, nintendo, tv, or my blessed hairdryer [every girl's world]. ...never did anything more than once.

Now that I think about it, when my son reaches age 5, I'll probably give him a couple of swats every night. If he's anything like me, he probably deserves them.

dad spanked me, as well as my sisters. i don't remember mom ever spanking me or the middle child, but she spanked my spoiled brat of a youngest sister. dad used the hand, mom used a wooden spoon.

i will spank my children, but no other person will be allowed to. my sisters and i always knew that if we acted up while someone else was in charge, the spankings would be that much worse. dad had that evil eye thing that he did (and still does) in the rear view mirror.

my parents' friends always said how well-behaved we were, and that's becuase we knew better than to act up in public!
