The average salary in 2009:
MLB $3.25 Million a year
NFL just under $1.8 Million a year
NBA $5.2 Million a year
English Premier League is $1.8 Million a year
However one thing to consider here, in England that $1.8 is take home because the Team you play for pays your taxes. The 20 teams in the English Premier League equal the revenues of the 30 teams in the NBA, but in England there is a larger gap in revenues between the top clubs and the bottom.
In Spain, the average WEEKLY salary for players on Real Madrid is $120,823. But in that same year the Yankees average was $133,363 a week. The Yankees had the highest weekly salary of all sports in the World then Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea and fifth place goes to the Mavs at $101,387. The average NFL salary per week is $33,388.
So all in all if you can play in the English Premier League or the Spanish Primera you’re gonna get paid relatively on the same level as top tier athletes in other top sports.
