My first few years everyone had to go line up for classes at the Pavilion - the 800 number to sign up for classes was a miracle of modern technology over that lining up crap.

Yes it was! I remember being in a line that ended at the Pavilion and formed two circles around the Academic Building.

Taco Bell with drive through window on the passenger side. Awesome.

You would go to Dos Hermanos if Los Nortenos was full and you did not want to wait.

Trips to the Snook Bakery and the Country Inn were mandatory.

The fish Lady was alive and well in the basement of the C. Wow was she sexist! Old people are cool because they there is no filter between the brain and mouth.

The Sabre Inn - 'nuff said.

Yes very popular, Mexican wedding dresses, made of cotton not rayon

Actually, what I was talking about were rayon jumpsuits that had a tight fitting empire waist, short or capped sleeves, and very wide straight legs. I do remember the embroidered Mexican dresses, though.

I remember my early 80's A&M days as good party days. You weren't worried about cops showing up unless the party got too unruly. Apartment complexes(and even Hasting's) sponsored parties with kegs. Bennigan's was THE place to be, especially on a Friday nite. Bars had Happy Hours of 4:1, 3:1 and 2:1. Drinking age was 18 for awhile, but was later changed to 21. I benefited from both. Lakeview Club had nickel beer nite. All-in-all,You could get royally spitfaced for just a few $$ back then.

Students didn't worry about aids when doing the horizontal hokey-pokey....they just didn't want to be mothers and fathers because of it.... There was no gangsa rap music, but classic rock and roll was at an end , getting a date was somewhat difficult as a male, because males actually outnumbered females by 4:1....Summers and Holiday breaks brought out a small-town atmosphere.....In the summer and before spring break, Coeds actually sunbathed outside their dorms and at the pool that is no longer there and it was a good place to mingle....you could still buy Aggie Mums to present to your sweetheart before each and every Aggie home game...and there was little or no Aggie gear to be bought because very few had it for sale...and Bart Braden was there running around campus in his maroon shorty-shorts and white t-shirt that told us how many miles that he had logged and cruising the pool and hanging from poles.....

That brings back memories. We'd go to movies at The Grove and take our dog with us and share our popcorn with him. I enjoyed taking our kids to Flying Tomato and sitting upstairs where we'd watch the traffic on University. Bonus points if you saw a firetruck or ambulance go by.

Alladin's Castle at Manor East was the only place I've ever seen a coin operated Trivial Pursuit game: I put my initials on that bad boy way more than once.

Good times.

I think I saw one of the three pizzas cooked at Sparky's in the early eighties, and also saw some of the trees that line the drive to the systems building planted(replanted) because of the lack of pizza being consumed at Sparky's. The grapevine made a chef salad with house dressing that i still lust for. Friday nights as we watched all the girls go to work in thier costumes. And once my parents stayed at the Pines hotel - we thought they we nearly in Navasota. Things have chaanged.

in the earliest of the 80's, registration began at the Animal Husbandry "building" (wasn't even the Pavilion yet). No phone registration yet. filled out paperwork, looked at computer printouts of classes offered, decided on your schedule and then you had to go to each department and see if there was a spot in the class by pulling an IBM punch card. (and by department, I mean the building in which it was housed, not a table set-up in a local area). If no cards were available in the section, there were no seats. Once all the cards were pulled, then you went to stand in line at Heaton Hall,(which extended for hundreds of feet in the August sun) to turn them in and pay your bill. Registration usually took 2 days to complete if you had to re-do the schedule due to filled classes.
Parking was a nightmare, so I rode the bus--many students rode the bus.

I enrolled for fall during the summer I transferred to A&M. I think it was 1983. We "pulled cards" for our classes in DeWare Fieldhouse and the line stretched down the side of the pool and up and over the pedestrian overpass. It's a wonder somebody didn't die of heatstroke.

I think phone registration started shortly after that. It was a nightmare the first couple of semesters. People would register at 3 AM just to be able to get into the phone system.

Oh yes-one other Brazos Vallley memory. When they got ready to open Gibbons Creek Reservoir for fishing, the moster bass (allegedly there) were so hyped that the telephone lake reservation system effectively crashed most of the local phone system-you couldn't get a dial tone. (Yes, you had to make a reservation to fish there) People drove up from Houston to use the pay phones in Carlos in an attempt to get through.

The beer barn place was Cargo Bay. I worked there. One of the most fun jobs that I ever had.

I miss "Bladder Buster" at Sneakers on Harvey.
I believe nickel drinks until someone went to the bathroom or left the building.

I was a kid there in the 80's while my dad worked as a Bull in the Trigon.

Going to the Creamery for ice cream was a weekly event.

Saw Who Framed Roger Rabbit in the Manor East mall.

Flying Tomato was cool, my mom went up in their hot air balloon once.

Midnight Yell in the horseshoe. I got to go on the track and play football with Rev everytime and the zip's in E-2 would make sure we got back to the Quad since we usually got separated from our parents.

I was there for the Cheap Trick concert. Concerts in GRW were so different from any concerts I have ever attended, but they were still incredible. Imagine a Willie Nelson concert minus the weed and booze. He still knew how to put on a show.

In 86, a cowpie and fries with tea (free refills) was two bucks.

Not kidding.

The CFS sandwich with extra gravy and fries was 3 something.

When it was bought by the mom and pop, it started the decline.

They weren't the nicest people, were they? I thought they were kind of jerky to college students, which was about 80% of their clientele.

Oh! And elephant walk was actually a fun battle between juniors and seniors--eggs, food coloring, water balloons, etc. It was great!

What was the name of that little deli shop behind NG??? Used to get a sandwich and a coke for ~$3.50 on Sundays when the dining hall was closed.

Also, the "beach" between the balcony doors. For some reason, I had to detour that way to class on sunny afternoons.

Damn, life was sure a lot more simple in college.

You mean dorms, right?

You had to have dark sunglasses though.

ft. shiloh lasted into the 90's. i stole a tip off a table there once as a little kid. I'll also never forget going there with about 200 socks on one foot after stepping on a nail. it was my own 5 year old kid remedy to be able to walk on it without pain.

i remember thinking that was the coolest place ever.

I believe the opener for Cheap Trick at GRW was Quarterflash if I'm not mistaken (maybe not, many brain cells died that night, and no one really cared about them). Cheap Trick was awesome! Great concert!

It was Night Ranger. I was also at the R.E.M. concert.

I lived in the Sausalito Apts on Munson/Harvey. Archie's across the street was a daily destination for us. $.39 burgers and fries. Double Dave's was also there.

Casa Ole at Post Oak Mall for hangover food, although I'm sure it wasn't that great.

$.99 six packs of Heilmann's(sp?) Old Style at Kroger. I got caught in the 18-21 drinking age change, but it never seemed to be an issue anywhere.

Good times.

Wow! You guys have just brought back a ton of memories!

Manor East Mall - remember the cool coffee shop in Montgomery Wards?

4 Hams on Rye - never thought I'd hear that name again!

Ft Shiloh - I'm tempted to call the realty company and buy the old sign that still stands there.

Keithley Beach - I think that was the dorm you guys were talking about, oh yeah....

Cowhop, Flying Tomato (wed night Sneaky Pete), Swensens, Tom's BBQ, etc.

Man I had forgotten about Cross Man.

260-3212, ROFLMAO!

Anyone remember the place on Wellborn close to 2818 (maybe a laundrymat?) that used to have bands? I remember seeing The Judy's there.

Man, talk about a trip down memory lane!

I do recall cases of Schaefer Light at Kroger for $6.00 Perhaps this is the reason I don't remember Night Ranger.

Was .38 Special ever in town? I seem to recall seeing them as well. Might have Beaumont, however.
